About to finish my assembly but one question...Tony1, Earl or anyone with experience.
I have read many threads regarding headstud torquing. Everyone seems to do it a little different. I have a GE sleeved stepdecked non O-ringed block with their overbored stock headgasket. I will be using ARP headstuds and was wondering what everyone torques them too? GE recommend 80 ft/lbs on an O-ringed block but what about a non O-ringed block? Just want to hear personal experiences not the he said she said hype. Thanks,

All I can say is use some copper spray, it seams to help seal a lot of head gaskets and I will be using it too.

80lbs is about right with the moly lube they supply. If the studs are new then i usually run the motor for 10 heat cycles or so and then retorque them. I don't loosen then retorque, just retorque. Every once in a while they'll stretch a bit and need the retorqueing. Good luck with it!

i saved a thread about this, and Earl mentioned that over 75 isnt really neccessary and in fact you danger warping the head.

"As far as installing the studs, you can put them in hand tight if you run a tap down the threads in the block first and clean them perfectly. However most people don't have the ability or the tools to do this so it is ok to torque the studs down to 5 lbs or so in order for them to be at an equal height in the block. Any more than 5lbs actually negates the clamping values of the studs.
If you do retorque and you find one very loose, something else is failing (probably the threads in the block). Anymore than 75lbs of torque on a Honda head puts you in danger of warping the head."
