9k rpm redline b16 turbo build???
Hey all, I've begun researching for my b16 rebuild for more boost. At first, I was considering a GSR block but now I think I'm going to save the money I was going to spend there and upgrade my valvetrain.
Heres my proposed setup:
stock b16 block .5 over
stock crank
eagle rods
cp 9:1 pistons
arp headstuds
acl bearings
What I'm interested in knowing is the amount of valvetrain work required to safely rev to 9k on this setup. Currently I have a stock jdm b16 head (w/ gsr cams). Can I just get ITR dual valvesprings for the exhaust side? I know the stock redline is only 8600 and I really am looking to go to 9. Recommendations on what to upgrade to rev safely there? This will be daily driven.
Turbo is t3/t4 .57/.63

not to thread jack but im also looking to rev to 9. would all you need to do is upgrade are the springs and retainers? what about the valves themselves? (stock gsr head with 57trim t3/t4 running 7psi)

For the most part i wouldnt suggest revving that high if you have a turbo that isnt going to push anymore air once its that high in the RPM band.
For a cheap solution you could go with some Type R valvetrain, or upgrade to some higher dollar springs/valves/retainers. It will probibly run you in the $5-600 range for decent stuff.

Supertech springs and retainers will be good to 9K, just get them over ITRs so you don't have to upgrade in the future. I think the deal goes for about $400, not bad.

I don't think that turbo is going to warrant revving to 9 grand. Especially with the .63 exh. housing. But, if you plan on running a larger turbo in the future, do it up!

Re: (highmilehatch)
You can do it on ITR valve springs, you can do it on stock b16 valve springs. I do it frequently. Running a .48 hot side. If you are going to do the valve springs, then supertech valves and REV springs and retainers(good to 10k).

Re: (swapit)
supertech is good. They had an article out a few months ago of there sponsored cars and one of them was taching her up to 10,000rpms. Type-r valve train can take the 9 grand abuse. Anything over 92-9300 upgrade.

i was running rev springs and retainers revving to 10k every run. next season i will have supertech, and going to rev til it stops making power. btw, my peak hp was at 10k when i let out of it

i used a 57 trim .63 a/r on my last build (84.5mm b16) and revved to 9300 with supertech springs, portflow retainers, and stock valves. I can't find my graph, but as far as power making goes, it definately did not make power the whole way, but it did keep a flat curve with both hp/tq clear to redline after it stopped making power. Nothing dropped off
