Default 97 ITR + JRSC + 8Lbs = Lots of Questions/Debate

Hey guys. Im going to be purchasing a jrsc in the near future (1-2 months) and had a few questions pop up that I tried to search out but wasn't really satisfied with only the few topics I found.

First off is the comp. issue. Currently I run stock comp of 11.1 and I wasn't sure if I should run a 6lb. pulley or 8lb. pulley....I know I can run up to 10lbs but that seems a little high.

Another problem Im going to encounter is an Engine Managment System. I think a Hondata would be perfect but which one? To add to the confusion I dont think there is a Hondata tuner within 8 hours of me.

The JRSC of course comes with a fmu and a btc, will this work temporarily? I know the best way to go is Hondata but its just that there isn't a tuner "in these parts". Is there a good alternative to the Hondata or is it wise to run with basic stuff that comes with the JRSC?

Something else I came across during my search was the ITR cams are not ideal for sc's although they seem very compatable with a turbo...? If so what is an ideal cam set-up to run with a jrsc.

Also should I install cam gears for when I finally go to a tuner...is this a must or just another way to gain a couple horses? Will this set-up run on 91 octane?

I know the best thing is Hondata or close enough to the best but with the purchase of the JRSC and misc items Im kinda leaning toward something a little bit cheaper, which of course will be changed out in the next year or so for a Hondata.

Im sure I left out some info which I know you guys will remind of...

One more thing lets not turn this into a "Go turbo you dolt" discussion, I wouldn't mind hearing the benefits of turboing this set-up but the car will see 95% Autox time and 5% Drag strip time.

CLiff notes: Going JRSC, have 11.1 Comp. Will engine survive 8lbs. Can I run with the JRSC FMU and BTC?

Thanks!!!!

Seems like a 6 lb pulley and the jackson fmu would be pretty safe. You might get more luck if you try this in the type r forum.

although i'm not a sc guy, i do have an R motor that is Turbocharged...

In regards to how many psi you want to run it's all in your tuning.

if you can;t find a tuner in ur area then

1. find a dyno shop
2. email or im st00pid aka jason
3. Setup a tuning session where there's more then just you who is interested
4. have everyone chip in and pay for all airfair and expense so Jason can come and tune your car and others.

i hope that helps, but in regards to your question about fmu as a temporary band aid, i don't think you should do that. but then again i'm stilla noob myself so don't take my word for it.

Good luck

I would highly recommend ditching the JR EMS (BTC) and JR FMU and going straight to a Hondata. You could install the kit and drive to the tuner with the kit installed, just be very light on the throttle and dont push any boost.
