90 integra da's slowly but surely ls/vtec turbo build
Whats up guys I figured I'd start up a build thread to show my progress on my build and to get some help as I finish things up.
A little rundown on the setup and what has been done so far:
81.5mm stock sleeve ls/vtec
Wiseco -12cc pistons (static CR works out to 9:1 with gsr head and machine work)
Eagle ls rods
Stock ls crank full rotating assembly balanced
Bone stock gsr head all rebuilt, new seals, valves re-faced
ITR copy blox intake manifold
Skunk 2 alpha 66mm throttle body (biggest I could go with above manifold)
BWR ram horn manifold
Precision 46mm wastegate
"Silver Surfer" 61 lb/min turbocharger
Hondata s200
Precision 1000cc injectors
Will be tuned on 93 octane
Stock fuel lines, walbro 255 fuel pump
Stock gsr y80 gearset
MFactory helical LSD
All new seals and diff bearings/shaft bearings
On to some pictures
Tearing down the head
Nasty block before paint
Painting the block
Block and head all painted up. This is an old valve cover I just set on for the picture
Assembling the head. This tool was worth it within the first 5 minutes
Head and cams all assembled and torqued down
Cleaned my cam gears up while I had them off. Comparison, before and after
Matching my intake manifold to the throttle body
Working on the timing, another great tool to have
Cant seem to get my timing perfect no matter what I do, seems I'm off half a tooth, Any pointers? I have put this thing on and taken it off at least 20 times
With the lines on the cam gears lined up perfect this is what the crank pulley looks like
But the marks on the pump and gear seem to line up perfect from this angle with the cam gears lined up perfect
Another question, the sensor on the top LEFT, green plug, is called an oil temperature switch in my helms and a thermo switch in the honda catalog, do I need this? I believe its an obd0 thing and is for the a/c but I have removed a/c and would like to run a breather line from here
And tonight I started getting my wiring ran

Some pictures frommy transmission rebuild:
Everything all apart and organized
The transmission was in pretty good shape and all of the synchros looked good and were within tolerance so I will run the stock ones for now
Got this in the mail not too long ago. I'm very pleased
Just got my cases back from being cleaned up at the machine shop the other day, I just have to get them painted up once we get some warm weather around here (if that ever happens) and I will be reassembling

Yeah I love my da, even with all the extra work its given me ha. Obd0 to obd1 wiring, adding wiring for vtec, and converting from cable to hydro transmission.

Finished up my harness today just about, just have to get a knock sensor and plug. Those 3 wires hanging on the left near the drivers side main connectors are for my MAP sensor that I relocated from the firewall to the throttle body.
Used a lot of these, they work real nice. 3m heat shrink butt splices with glue inside for a good seal

I have an old one somewhere I'll dig up when I get home. It hasn't seen outdoors in a couple years and is covered in dust right now ha. It will be getting pulled out and cleaned up once winter goes away.

My head was milled twice but not at the service limit yet. Im hoping all is okay for my motor and goingto slap some adjustable cam's soon pretty soon.

Yeah both my head and block have been resurfaced but not enough to affect my timing. I'm not too sure what to do with it, I've tried different sequences of putting the belt on, different tension techniques, different tricks I've read about, and it ends up looking this way or worse every time.

Re: 90 integra da's slowly but surely ls/vtec turbo build
Try this method, move the crank pulley gear mark about 5 degrees or so past the timing mark on the oil pump, make sure both cam gears are lined up, install belt on (BTW the belt will slide on very easy this way) no more fighting to get the last section onto the intake cam gear. Turn the belt counter clockwise 3 teeth on the cam gears, then pull up on tensioner and tighten down. Rotate timing belt 3 full rotations counter clockwise and re-check timing. should be lined up perfect if your head/block haven't been decked or resurfaced too much. Good luck great to see another boosted DA build, I need to post a build thread on mine.

Re: 90 integra da's slowly but surely ls/vtec turbo build
Well I didn't get a whole lot done today, started prepping my transmission housing and intake for paint, made up my water feed line and oil return line for the turbo, and messed with this timing some more.
Today for trying to get the timing right I tried GEN2 LS's suggestion, and got the same results, tried having the crank 5 degrees before the line, tried advancing and retarding the exhaust cam a little bit, switched out tensioner springs, switched out tensioner, even swapped my cam gears around. All with the same exact results, off by around a half tooth.
Anyway..
Oil return line, I have to grab a bigger wrench to tighten this one down the rest of the way, that's why the tape is still on it.
And with all the techniques I tried with the timing this was the closest I got
With the crank lined up perfect:

Ordered my action 2ms clutch today hopefully this thing will be reasonable to drive on the street. Also got some Seymour Alumi Blast for the transmission. Will post pictures once I get the paint and lay it down on the transmission.

Re: 90 integra da's slowly but surely ls/vtec turbo build
Got my flywheel resurfaced today and I thought, man, this thing feels lighter than a stock LS flywheel so I had the machine shop throw it on an accurate scale while they had it and sure enough, it was 13.6 pounds. No identifying marks on it at all, anyone have a clue what flywheel this might be? It came with my car so I don't know.

Hey. Since this is a ls/Vtec build you will never get those stock gears lined up. I think it is due to the extra deck height that comes with the ls block compared to the gsr. You will need to get adjustable cam gears.

It is an old thread but it has some very good info.
I am not a pro but i have done tonnes of reading.
Good luck.

Re: 90 integra da's slowly but surely ls/vtec turbo build
well it's been a little while since I've updated this. I got my clutch in the mail yesterday and started painting some more stuff. I got tired of waiting for my schedule and the weather to sync so I threw together a little indoor paint booth for small parts, it worked out real nice.
The transmission is done, I will get some more pictures up once everything is dried enough to handle.
