84mm 84.5mm//whats the Difference??
besides the .5mm--what would be the advantage in getting the extra .5 mm. I am going to be resleeved, so i dont know if i should get the 84mm or the 84.5

If you get the extra .5mm you will have to pay more for pistons. Just a thought. I went with 84mm.

84.5 is 20 over.

84.5 is 20 over in what motor???

Also, it is my understanding that JE doesn't make off the shelf 84.5mm pistons. Arias does, so you'd have to go with them or another company, which is why I went back down to 84mm.

Re: 84mm 84.5mm//whats the Difference?? (ninesecrx)
84.5 is 20 over in what motor??? 0.5mm oversize is 0.020" oversize ('20 over') in any motor. |

Re: 84mm 84.5mm//whats the Difference?? (ninesecrx)
False... 0.5mm is equal to 0.020" or 'twenty thousandths' or '20 over'. Or did I miss something in "US Engine spec 101"? |
Re: 84mm 84.5mm//whats the Difference?? (B20C5 Turbo)
im sorry, that false quote was not for this post. It was actually on instant messanger and my reply ended up on here. Sorry...0.5mm is equal to .020

Re: 84mm 84.5mm//whats the Difference?? (ninesecrx)
JE however does stock 85mm pistons

Re: 84mm 84.5mm//whats the Difference?? (boosted3g)
many times what i do is start small.. and then if you burn a piston you can replace them all with the next size up. if you start with an 85mm you dont leave yourself room to grow if necessary

.5mm or .020 is about 22~26cc more of displacement http://images.zeroforum.com/smile/emsmile.gif http://images.zeroforum.com/smile/emthup.gif

Re: 84mm 84.5mm//whats the Difference?? (JDM_DOHC_SiR)
yea, but if I get my motor resleeved, can I still overbore .5 more AFTER the resleeving???
|
Re: 84mm 84.5mm//whats the Difference?? (shorty)
You can go up to 87mm so i wouldnt worry about it. If you do happen to really mess it up then just get it resleeved again.
|
Re: 84mm 84.5mm//whats the Difference?? (boosted3g)
i wouldnt run 87mm on a street car and "just getting it resleeved again" cost about 650+ shipping and about 1-2 months of downtime.... where as just boring .5 mil up at a time can take almost no time and cost as much as you local machine shop charges for a bore/hone (100bucks here)r
