Default 60mm Exhaust good enough????

My setup is a d16y8 w/Greddy currently @ 7PSI. I was curious to know if a 60mm (2 1/4 in) exhaust will be ok for my setup. I dont plan to boost more than 10 PSI or ~200whp ever. Thanks

i have the same kit on my car, i plan on going with a 2.5" thermal with a high flow cat... correct me if i'm wrong, but isn't 60mm = 2.5" not 2.25"??

the 60mm equates to somewhere near the 2.3" mark....you are 2/10th away from 2.5"...that's of course the OD, but it should be fine....if you don't have the cash run that, but like everybody says...once you boost you want more boost....so it won't hurt to purchase a larger exhaust system.....i remember a post of somebody selling the 70mm Greddy EVO on the board....maybe ART.....or you can go with Mkteller8@aol.com...check out the classified section he can hook you up with the custom mandrel bend exhaust plumbing....may it be 2.5" or 3"....

60mm is fine, but a 3" system will definitely give you top end, especially with a GReddy. I know bc I have a Y8 with a GReddy and used to have a Tanabe RC, and now I have a 3" system.

yeah, I got my car tuned, and the 60 mm piping was a real restriction up top at 7 psi. i'm back down to 6, and the top-end is horrendous. no more pull after like 6100 rpm or so. Spools up quickly, though.

on a related topic, would JUST a 3" cat-back give good benefits if the stock cat and greddy downpipe were kept? i'm wary of getting an aftermarket cat, seeing as how i must deal with CA emissions.

i think i'm gonna go with the thermal 3" catback...since they're like the one ones that make 3" catback for hondas....

oh yeah, exactly how big is the greddy dp??? i thought it was 2" but again i could be wrong.... could it be 2.5?

if my dp was 2" and my cat back was 3", would i need a 2" inlet cat and a 3" outlet?? or should it bolt right up?

you'll most likely need to hack off the flange of the DP that bolts to the cat, and weld on a transition piece from small dia to larger dia, then weld on flange. I'm sure a shop will do it.

I'm also considering opening up the stock exhaust.

i think the greddy is 2".... i'd just get a new downpipe 2.5" downpipe and flare it to 3"..... the cat you'd want 3" > and < 3" out

hey swrdply, how do the sounds between the 60mm and 3 compare? also, are you running stock dp? i wanna go 2.5 but i hafta figure out the whole dp->cat>catback thing. i dont wanna just weld everything up as i'd rather use flanges so that its removeable

I've never heard of anyone welding their whole exhaust assembly together (DP, cat, and the rest)- you would weld sections together for the DP only - everything would still have flanges. I hope I didn't misunderstand you.

http://www.roadraceengineering.com/f...andgaskets.htm
I don't know if the greddy mitsu turbos are the same as the eclipse turbos, which i think are mitsu turbos....but if it is the above link has the eclipse downpipe flange and gasket....then you can probably just by two u-bends that are 2.5" Radius with close diameters...and go to an exhaust shop and just weld them together.....just a thought.....i don't know how the wastegate would work

i kno alotta cheap shops that would rather chop pipes to length and weld them together. they do awesome crush bends too

what i was trying to figure out is how i would want to connect everything together because i'm not positive if i can get a 2.5 dp, which means i would have to get some sort of reducer to match the cat etc. and if i decide to get a 60 mm catback, will it just match up with my stock cat or will i have to have something done there as well? the best would be if i just get a 2.5 dp made and then go 2.5 throughout, then i'd have no problems, but as of now i dont know if i can afford it, so i wanna see some other setups to figure out what can be done with the least amount of hassle.

60mm catbacks are usually utilized by most of the aftermarket companies like greddy....they are designed to bolt up to your stock cat
