60-1? Whats all the hype?
Guys I'm looking @ several turbos for my 2 ltr. C5 build. Looking to make around 400-500 whp. I know theres several chargers that can do the job but what I've heard about the 60-1 is,.... I know it makes great power but, I've also been told it can be real laggy & then come on like a light switch. Did a search & didn't find what I wanted to know. If it's gonna have alot of lag I'll go w/ another charger. Don't want lag all the way to 5K rpm's for something I'll drive on the street more & just occasional 1320 use. I just don't want lag, lag, lag, BOOOOST!!!! Thanks.

Re: 60-1? Whats all the hype? (HYREV2NR)
in my lsvtec 89mm stroke with a 84mm bore i hit full boost of 12 psi on 4th gear at 3,800 rpm. not very laggy at all and makes over 400whp at that boost level. its the t3 60-1 with the to4s 4 inche compressure cover, .82ar turbine housing with a stage 5 turbine wheel. its a great turbo for the money. but go gt30r or 35r if you got the money.

Did you post the wrong graph, or is that a typo? That picture shows it just picking up at 4k, and the WG opening at 5k. In other words, an extra 100lb/ft of torque after hitting full boost.
Still on a motor that revs to 8k, thats a very nice powerband. 3k on a honda is very nice, assuming lag isn't bad when you start from a roll.

I used the 60-1 for 2 years, t3 .63ar
stock ls went 11.87 on 225 bfgs (262whp 10psi)
built motor (517)whp went 11.01 on 225 bfgs
10.7@134 on slicks
was great the stock ls was DD i loved driven around out of boost unless i wanted it (5200) full boost it came in and dident spin at all...
for the money, you cant beat it Im starting to see alot more "gt" cars coming out and having tons of tractions problem

Re: (fmfkid250)
i went with the 60-1 because id heard of all the gt series traction problems. to see that much power early on and not have extreme drag radials or slicks on your car, youre probably not going to be hooking up well even with a great suspension setup and traction bars.
i went with the stage 5 wheel, .70ar and .82 exhaust housing- i forget the trim size. i also opted for the t3 housing and im gonna ceramic coat it and mildly port the cold side. its still a pretty damn big turbo for the street and its going on a 84mm fully built stroker. if you want it to spool a little quicker- go with an equal length or topmount, turbo cams, and adjustable cam gears to move your powerband so you can get to boost quicker.

i dont think so. what you are saying and the graph you posted do not match up at all. how the hell can you be seeing full boost at 4k when at 4k your making 110whp. that graphs show full boost maybe close to 5k
with my 2.0 lsvte motor with the 60-1 i hit full boost at 3800-4k rpm and am close to 200whp already

To answer one of the question, you won't experience much lag on a 2.0 liter. And whoever said it's like instant boost with that turbo is flat out wrong.

Re: 60-1? Whats all the hype? (Dunc)
well for me it boost quite fast. full boost before 4krpm with a 84mm lsvtec. thats with the .82ar and stage 5 wheel too. at 5psi it already feels faster than my evo at 21psi.
full boost of 12psi at 3,800 rpm tapers to about a bar at redline. pull was on 4th gear
dont mind the low top end i was having issues up top

Your either made a typo or your confusing all of us. Check your first post on here. You first said 82mm now your 84mm bore. I'm assuming by your other post you are 84mm. Sorry i have a photo memory.

hahah like almost 20 years ago! 60-1 wheel is major old, and there are sooo many more efficient wheels and designs nowadays

I don't know about you guys, but my old t3/t04e 60 trim .63 ar works quite well. 404 whp @14 psi, and builds nice boost around 4,300rpm.

i had one on my stock ls boosting 10psi for a few weeks, 3rd gear it wouldnt make 10psi till a lil over 5000 rpms, but wasnt event to 5 psi till into the 4000+ range. i didnt like it.
now on my lsvtec the 60-1 .63 was 9-10 psi by vtec and 15 psi by 5100ish. i think it started building noticeable boost a little over 4000 rpms at wot.
to the op, id look for something ball bearing to help reduce the spool time. i think you could get a 60-1 bb and make decent boost in the 4000's rpm range, but you could also do that on a bb sc series or gt30xx. that depends on how much money you want to spend.....
