57trim, 60 trim, 60-1, SC61?
I am buying parts for my ITR right now. i have previously had a 57trim on it, and then i sold it and it has been running all motor ever since. I owned another ITR since then and it had an 84mm setup with a pt67 on it.
Now im building this ITR again, i am kinda torn on what turbo to go with. I dont think i will go wrong with either of the named turbos in the title, but i want to know the downfalls to them. The car is not really a daily, but i do drive it alot. I want good strong topend, with pretty quick spool time. This car will see the road course's, drag strips and maybe some interstate runs. The pt67 was great at the strip but obviously not the best for what im looking for this time around.
I have narrowed it down to the 57trim, 60 trim, 60-1, or sc61. I baby'd my pt67 at 12psi and made 380whp and ran 11.50@123mph. I want some more power this time, So for strip use i think ill be happy with 450whp...but obviously thats to much for the road course on my sissy 205's i run, so i want to be able to turn the boost down some and enjoy it on a road course.
Basically, this is going to be a FUN car for me to just enjoy. Not looking to set records or win any big events, just a fun build.
ANY advice on these turbos would be greatly appreciated...
Thank you in advance!

Well do you plan on turning it up down the road? You could do 450 on any of em, except prolly the 57 without maxin it out. I personally like the 60-1, thats what I'm running on my car. I currently run about 440hp on 93 oct. with about 16-18 psi, and I love it. It spools up fairly quick, and full boosting @ vtec, great on the street and awesome @ the track (see sig for times on those boost levels). I am actually turning up to bout 25-28psi, and will put me mid to low tens hopefully.
If your content with staying @ those boost levels I would run the 60-1, only b/c thats right in the efficienct range for that turbo, like 18-20is psi depending on your setup. The turbo will spool good on street, and SCREAM at the track. If you plan on turning it up and getting addicted like we ALL do, I would go with something alittle bigger.
hope that helps alittle, at least for the 60-1 anyhow.....

You've got a lot you want to do here, and picking either of these turbos and their variants are going to give you pretty decent results for all that you're trying to do, but not particularly good in any one area. If you plan to circuit, take that SC61 or any variant of that out of the picture now, as even with lower boost levels, any turbo of that size of 60lbs/min or above will not perform the best. Going GT3076R is not a bad idea if you don't mind adding water lines and fittings with more work, ($200) and the cost of the turbo is ok, but not the best (about $1150-$1250 depending upon housing choice and vendor). There is the GT3000 that I've created for the Honda and subie market that is journal bearing and uses the same GT3076R 76.2mm compressor wheel, but expect about $950 either way. The borg-Warner series has very good results with their S256 and S259 for your needs, but again, $1100 or so.
One of the things you may have to do is sit down with a nice cup of coffee and really narrow down the purpose of this car, how much you're willing to spend, modify to make fit onto your existing setup, etc. One turbo can't do everything, something will have to sacrifice in your decision. As much as I've put together a lot of things over the years for clients and teams, the one thing that made them happiest in the long run is that they didn't try to do everything in one application; they understood that when they narrowed it down to what they really wanted to do with the car, with one or 2 purposes in mind, they made a much wiser decision.
We all want to help and make sure you're happy with the turbo that you receive. Some have better torqueband than others. But when you slow down and focus on what 2 major aspects are most important to you, you'll come up with a better option out of the 15 or turbos that can do many things. Give me a PM with questions, or info on HOW to narrow down your options so that you can make the best decision possible. Otherwise, all you're going to get as responses is what people would choose if they had YOUR money to do it with, and not what necessarily is best FOR YOU. Some ideas will be great ones, others, not so great.
