just perused the article, but it looks like it is just stock sleeves, wow and rods (just saw that) but it really isn't a stock block.

personally if I'm putting in pistons, I'm doing rods as well. not a bad read though.

Yeah, this was a couple of issues ago. It was a nice read thoh, They even used the old rods, rod bearings and headbolts, LOL! And all with a standard 81mm bore. Sweet!

Just goes to show that good tuning goes a long way, and it dispells many myths about the "boost limit" of stock honda motors...

This is very easily achievable with a piston rod swap'd vtec headed b series.

Stock rods though... why go though the engine and keep them, that's retarded. Who wants to bust out the press and mate stock rods to shiny new pistons?

nothing new, if you can put together an efficient setup, prevent detoination and combustion abnormalities, all you have to worry about is the physical limits of the stock parts, theyll take some power for awhile but its bound to take a ****, compressive forces arent as hard on rods as tensile ie stretching from rpms, i enjoyed that article it was quite some time ago, last summer?

lol none of you will believe me but my tuner and his buddy rob have had this crx for for 5 years with a stock b16. in the past two years they have been pushing it alot.

first of all for about 3 years it had been running around 400whp at 19psi with EVERYTHING STOCK even the rod bolts and head bolts. recently they turned the boost up even more and were running 28psi for a little while. my tuner thinks they were making right around 500 then they cracked a sleeve. here let me get a video of him when he races a built k20 on 12lbs when he is on 19lbs http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e4J-ujRB0Nw

I understand what you all are saying, but I think some of you might be missing the point of the article. Their intent was to dispell some of the common internet forum myths regarding how stock B16s have some kind of limit or weak point when it comes to boost.

I think they proved their point well. They took an old motor, used all the same old parts (head bots, gasket, etc.) and made some stupid crazy HP numbers. Yeah, it was in a test facility and the motor was not in a car, but it still proves the point that a lot of people think their motors blow because they turn the boost up too much when that is simply not the case.

The point of the article is to show that given proper tuning, B16s are capable of much more than many people might be inclined to believe.

Of course there are always exceptions, but I think the article did a good job of dispelling some long-standing myths. I must admit that even I believed that the boost limit of a stock B16 was 12 - 14 PSI just because that's what you always see on the internet.

There was a user on here with a stock block b16 running 10's making like 550whp!!+

yes lol its all in the tuning. with how long my buddy beat the everliving **** out of their b16 right around 400whp for 2-3years, and the only reason it blew was because of the walls cracked due to high boost levels. i believe that a stock b16 can handle 400 just fine. as long as the tuner is up for it.

this is a great artical. if you dont belive this about the b16 try looking up jeff evans of evans tunning in easton pa. hes one of the best tunners in the world. he has tunned total stock gsr motors to over 500 hp.. like most honda ower wel all do everything on a buget. thats y we r on on ht trin to help out a a fellow honda guys need for speed
