480whp SOHC D16Z6........
Just got off the dyno today with the new motor. It made 450whp at 5500rpm, peaked at 480whp at 6500, and was still making 450whp at 8000rpm and hadn't nosed over yet. This was with one stage of nitrous, jetted at 125hp and 28psi boost. The clutch was slipping about 8-10%, so the engine was probably making just over 500whp. Sorry, I don't have the dyno graph to post. It is one of the strangest dyno graphs I have ever seen.....very broad. I am looking to put a cam with an additional 15-20 degrees of duration to get it to peak higher. I went from a 220 deg. cam to a 232 deg cam and it picked up 15-20 whp. I am making as much power with this new engine on one stage of nitrous as I was making with the old engine on both stages of nitrous (250hp shot). With my usual 125 hp second stage, we should be just over 600whp on a SOHC!!! I am pretty stoked!
Special thanks goes to Brad at RLZ Engineering for making the baddest SOHC cylinder head and intake combo on the planet.
BTW, this power was made with only 12 deg. of total timing....I just wanted to make a few pulls on a fresh motor. There is a bunch of fine tuning on this combination. I think 650whp is legit on this new engine after some track time, my second stage of nitrous, and a bigger cam. Well, if nothing blows up testing on Sat., I will be in Cordova, IL for the NDRA race.........
Long live the D-series!!!!!!
