400WHP Street Car 4-Puck or 6-puck?
My last setup:
GT35R
B18C
CP Pistons
Eagles
00" S4C SI Tranny
ACT HD Clutch w/6-Puck (un-sprung)
400WHP Dyno Jet
My Q is.
When you drive the car on the street the car Roasts the Tires all day...
Finally got the chance to open up the Clutch and looks like the 6-Puck is Fried up & can't support the Power...
A Quick Replacement is should I drop in a 4-puck this time around or should I go again w/the 6-Puck and Baby it?
Chime in Guys..

Baby it?? Haha I doubt it. I would just upgrade while you have the biaatch out. 4 puck will do it but if you plan to make more power I would just get a twin disk.

I had a six puck-unsprung ACT and hated it tremendously!!!
I will not run this clutch again, its just so harsh, the chatter is crazy.
If it was a race only car I would reconsider, but I daily drove this car.
My next setup will be right around 400whp and I was looking into this clutch:
AI4XTSS, this is a clutch rated to almost 300 ft-lbs of torque, at 400whp, this clutch will hold just fine.
No need to step up to the 4 or 6 puck. Just make sure its sprung if it is a daily driver.

With my experience w/un-sprung clutches in the past it didn't work out.... I would rather stick w/the Un-Sprung Disks...
I rather not buy a Brand new Kit, Now would want to just replace the disk (Less Cost)...

Wow, lol alot of people on honda-tech are such "girly-men". 4 Puck Unsprung with Extreme pressure plate all the way. This is the setup i would use if i were you and ive driven setups like this in bumper to bumper jersey traffic.

Re: 400WHP Street Car 4-Puck or 6-puck? (blackeg)
didn't say I could do it, I had the clutch for years.
I've driven others and they are not as harsh.
Really I dislike the shock it puts on the driveline more than the workout. All act's are a workout, thats no biggie.....
Its way overkill for only 400whp.
Wow, I actually wrote, "for only 400whp"

Hmmm odd you didn't like the ACT with 6 puck unsprung, that's the exact setup I have, except mine's only the HD pressure plate and not the Extreme... and I daily drive mine as well in bumper to bumper traffic. Yeah it chatters from time to time, but it also holds the power fine at the track and there's no chance of a spring popping out so to me that's worth it
To the original poster, I would just upgrade the pressure plate. The HD is basically an ITR pressure plate, works out to only slightly stiffer than stock. Is the 6 puck killed or is it the pressure plate and flywheel? You can upgrade to a harsher disc with 4 pucks, or you can upgrade the pressure plate and deal with a slightly stiffer clutch. I'm not sure which is the better option.
If you're not racing the car regularly then you probably can get away with a weaker clutch. My 6 puck won't allow me to do 3rd gear burnouts and it's pretty much maxed out.

I was running a comp stage 5 with a sprung plate at around 400whp and it didnt seem to have any problems, mind you it as only making like 260tq.

I hate ACT, I used them once, and the clutch pedal is just stupid, you have to put your big toe into it. I went with Competition Clutch and they are the only clutch I will use.

Just make sure its sprung if it is a daily driver.</TD></TR></TABLE>

x2, best clutch I have ever driven hands down, and it's been proven to hold 500whp no problem.

Re: (laosonick)
If you can't drive an ACT unsprung 6-puck and HD pressure plate you are a total bitch So easy to drive, I drive mine every day and it grips great no problems with it. My prego-wife got used to it the first time she drove it, no problem. If you are bitching about the pedal pressure then you need to work out or something, lol, I mean seriously....go drive a freaking geo metro or something and quit trying to build a fast car if you cannot handle it
I like competition clutches to, and that will probabally be my next clutch
