Default 38 or 44mm Tials?400WHP

Almost got everything i need for my build and was wondering, can i use the tial 38mm gate.I am going to be using a ramhorn mani with the gate in the middle of the collector(like Full-Race) and the turbo that is going to be used is a GT35R .63AR.

I dont want to have any spiking issues, but if there are people that have been using the 38 with success, I would like to hear about it.

Budgets getting tight and I can can the smaller gate for considerably cheaper.

Holla back, lol.

This i know about wastegate selection.

Big turbo + Low boost = 44mm
Big turbo + High boost = 38mm

And dont go half or double the spring rate.

I dont know how well i can explain this but here it goes..

The wategate relieves pressure, if your running big turbo and low boost, it will have to relieve more pressure then at a higher boost, so more chances of spiking at lower boosts.. If the turbo is small, then its ok to run a smaller WG for low/high boost.

Hope that helps

Nicely put, I've seen some very high hp cars running the 38mm.

i built my own manifold with WG in the center of the collector. it would hold 18psi just fine (18psi spring) with a 35r and 38mm gate. made about 550whp. i dont like the 38mm wg's very much though

if you have the money get the 44mm. its worth it just for the v-band if nothing else.

That is the exact theory Ive been telling people, butI just wanted to make sure it was correct.

18psi on a 35R and u made 550?? Thats impressive, if possible.Myabe with the bigger exhaust housings.

I havent decided yet on which gate. 44's are the pimpness.

it was a T3 .63 with a ported shroud S cover...stock cylinder head with crower springs/retainers/cams. no port work. mani/dp/exhaust i made myself....all 3 inch exhaust work. made 616whp@25psi it would not make any more power even at 30psi.....so i just dropped the boost down to 25 and left it at that. 2wd dynojet on slicks.

the car went 10.20 running 18psi all the way down the track. and 10.0 running 18psi 1st 2nd and 3rd gear and 25psi in 4th. it had 9's in it but a dropped sleeve cut me short on that goal. the short times were great on that turbo. 330's is where the car shined

my last set up , I could not hold the boost low on a 40mm. Deff needed a bigger gate to run lowere boost.

I have a 44mm now and its pimp cuz of the vband option. lol
Im planning on running at least 1bar daily, so it should be ok.

whoa, 550@19. I made 490@19 on my gt35e. I guess that compressor housing does help. I just have the e cover, but i think i'll have to upgrade now.

Wow, impressive numbers for such low boost. My goal was 400 whp and I was palnning to go as high as 20-22lbs.
Im doind stock B16 head and stock LS block w/ pistons and rods.

Aslong as its on pump, ill do what it takes to get 400.

I want the 44, but this build will go alot quicker if i just get the 38, or so it will seem.Maybe I will pass on buying the gate for now and focus more on other things.

Im such a ***** when it comes to deciding on parts.I just want to get what I want.

Good idea.. Im trying to explain to him about race fuels right now.. Nothing like me tuning his car for pump gas and he goes and puts some VP Import 120+ in it and got beat by a pocket rocket..

Hes ashamed of it right now.. It made one track show this year.....*cough* 14.2 *cough*..

He rebuilt the D, I had to give him a block since he didnt think about honing a block 100 times and reusing the same pistons.. After about 15psi at 14+air/fuel the pistons would expand out enough for the knock to go away..

He just loves to hear about my stock sohc that ran 12's.. He is determined to make a showing this year, Just look for the big red matco tent..
