Default 350-400 HP Build

I just picked up a 99 EX and would like to build it to hold around 350-400hp. I have been doing some research lately and any input from anyone would be helpful. Mainly about the block and head area. This would be my first honda build and would like to do it correctly. My wrx is to the point where I dont feel like buying a $3500 transmission. My main question is the block and what EM to go with I have heard good things about hondata. I know that I need pistons, rods, bearings, rings, head gasket, head studs, and get the head built. I am wondering about the block does it need to get sleeved or what would the best way to do this. Any input would be greatly appreciated.
-Thank you.

Don't waste your money on sleeves unless you plan on doing more than 425-450whp daily driven. We all run 425whp 93 oct 500whp 110oct on stock sleeves but only run 500whp occasionally. As far as head goes if you're going to crank it higher that stock rev limiter just do dual valve spring and titanium retainers. Stock valves should be fine though. For management I'd run Neptune, same as Hondata S300 but way cheaper and has some cool features like 2 step that you can set whenever you want by just holding the throttle not with a lap top.

dont have to sleeve the block, just maybe a hone which keeps the pistons at 75mm. you can use suzuki vitara pistons which are 75mm and eagle rods and that will be enough for the bottom end. vitara pistons have made 400+whp so use your own judgment when it comes to that. you could leave the head stock, even the valve train if you're not gonna rev it any higher than stock. I personally dont think ems matters as long as you go with the proven ones like hondata, aem, neptune, chrome, and whatever else. im thinking about building a d16y8 myself right now, and i'll prob just do eagle rods and vitara pistons. with that i should be able to hit 400whp.

search for "vitara", "sohc", and posts by user "fjt". fjt is the king of vitara pistons.

That sounds like a pretty solid setup. I was always under the impression that you had to sleeve the block on hondas to make power. Thats why I figured that I would ask other peoples opinion. Thanks

i love neptune, ,especiallly compared to the uberdata ive been using for the past 3 or 4 years. the 2 step with anti lag is bad ***, even shoots fire out of the exhaust lol.

go with a tranny from a z6 (92-95 sohc vtec), and get somem kind of lsd. quaife if u have the money, then maybe like an obx if you dont.

dont just hone, do a .020 overbore, making 75.5mm. i mean yoru machinist should be able to tell, but still in all

The tranny from a z6 hold together better? Would definantly be getting a LSD put it.

Hondata is pretty much one of the best "add-on" engine management systems. Don't go with AEM unless you want a headache. Keep it simple and reap the benefits. There's a lot of 600+ hp cars running Hondata very successfully including me.

One of those EM units will be the one I go with. I got to see what my closest tuner tunes. I am going to get the car tuned at Tempest Racing when the time comes. I have seen good things from there.

Yeah I am calling them tomorrow to figure a few things out. I am going to do the vitara setup with some eagle rods. I havent decided on the head yet but still doing some research. Any ideas on what turbo to go with for that power but with good response? Any turbo input will be helpful. Thanks

GT28rs but the larger one. I run the GT28rs with .63 A/R and T3 housing. Get the .82 and it should make over 350whp

Thats sounds good. Any idea how good a 20g with the 8cm housing would do or just give to much lag?
