Default 3" DP... should i flare or try Full 3 inch..

well i have a prelude so space is somewhat limited.. im keeping AC.. i dont think ac would be the problem maybe alternator if anything.. i have a 2.5 inch dp right now i can hack it off right after it turns which would leave about 10" of 2.5 inch piping.. would it be a noticable gain if i when 3" from the flange rather than flaring it after 10 inches or so.. would it even matter? ill post pics when i can

Well, all I can say is that you can't do a full 3" DP. We did a DP on a prelude about a week ago, and even 2.5" was a tight fit. The first time we did it, it broke the dp when we tightened the alternator down. (Had to shave one of those three little screws.. if you look, you'll see what I mean.)

Flaring to 3" is always a good thing, do it as soon as you can (which is right after the bend)... unless of course you want a quiet car.

will it be a signifigant diffence in flaring and running a full 3" it would be 2.5 for about 8-10 inches

Yes sir it will makes a big difference, make 30hp to the wheels. With turbo you want to get those exhaust gases out as fast as you can.

No, it's not going to make much difference. According to Garrett, you should start off with piping similar to size on the discharge port of the turbine housing. I would say do 2.5" to 3", or even 2.25" to 2.5" to 3" which would give a nice smooth transition to 3 inch if you use nice reducers from Flowmaster or Burns.

BoostedH23a1,
Who sells those flares??

When I was making my first downpipe for a friend I was looking for something like that but than just ended up going to a parts store and buying one of those 2.5-3" adapters and than had to cut it down to make it look right...

Now you know if I had it done, you would be one of the first i would let know. I had been busy at school, my mom graduated from college and just alot going on. I'm waiting on Chris to finish the rest of my downpipe and I'll be very close. I'm a boost addict I hav to take it 1 day at a time
