27 x 12.5 x 3 too big for H22A?
Ok I have researched this already and can not get a real definately answer. I have an H22A in a Civic looking to go boost. I have a Spearco vertical flow (extremely efficient, .7 PSI pressure drop according to the shop) that is 12.5 x 3 x 27. This also includes top and bottom tanks. I currently have a SC 44 with a .63 AR, and a love fab mini-me turbo manifold. Is this intercooler too big? I currently only plan on running 7 pounds right at the moment and much more in the future when the block is reworked with sleeves, pistons and rods. The shop I bought this from said u really cant go to big cuz cars just dont have the frontal area to make one too big. The intercooler I have is rated up to 900 HP. It is really designed for american V8's with a supercharger, But I wanted the efficiency of the vertical flow. How will turbo lag be effected? Some people run this through a little formula and say it wont affect it so little that u wont even notice it. Others say too large of an intercooler will affect it greatly. What is the real deal here? Ohh yeah BTW I plan on running 2.25" pipping.

That intercooler is overkill bigtime.
Basically with an excessively large intercooler your spool times will be reduced by a significant amount.
I look at intercoolers like this:
200-350whp - 6.5x2.25x22" core
350-500- 8x3x24" core
500+ 10x3.5x24" core
700+ get a water to air

perhaps u didnt read it too well. The total size with tanks is 27 x 12.5 x 3. The core size is 27 x 6 x 3

He read it fine and posted the sizes that you should use.
The intercooler is too big and will effect spool times. The turbo you have isnt good for enough power to be worth the huge intercooler and major modification you would need to fit it.
Buy something else.

took your advice and got a smaller intercooler. total size is 20 x 12.5 x 3. Core size is 20 x 6 x 3. I know its just a tiny but big for my current application, but knowing my luck I will blow the car up in about 6 months and would be looking for more. So I figure plan ahead and go with what I will eventualy be running. Thanks.
