2.5" or 3" exhaust for turbo???
I 'm ready to upgrade my exhaust now and I'm thinking...should I go with a 2.5" complete system or just go for the larger 3" system. I will also be replacing the cat with a car sound probably. What would you guys do? 2.5"or 3"?

we just got my car on the road today(and back off the road tonight ) but my custom 3" is amazing. i can actually blow off in neutral, and i start spooling around 2500-3k. thats with a 2.5" dp, carsound 3" 3" in/out dynomax race bullet muffler, and HKS hiper titanium muffler. go for the 3, its soooo worth it

um, yea... 3" turbo doesn't need post turbine exhust velocity so 3" piping is suggested. may help spooling as well as overall power made due to less backpressure

After some thought, I'm going to go with the 3" system. Hopefully its not too loud. But it should flow like a mo fo.

Re: 2.5" or 3" exhaust for turbo??? (VTC_CiViC)
Whats the noise saying on the 3" exhaust? I have it on my Buick and its loud as ****. How is it like on a 4 cylinder motor? Is there a drown at 3000 rpm that plugs your ears up? I am contemplating doing my exhaust to 3" on my TEG but I can not stand a loud daily driver. What 3" system is quiet without a cat? or does this exhaust even exist? My area is turning into one big bait trap, so I don't want to bring any unnessassary attention to myself.

I see everyone is runing a 2.5" downpipe and then a 3" exhaust...is there a benefit to this? Or should i make my DP 3" also?

I honestly dont have a clue how this noise thing works. Noise is suppost to be because of exhaust gasses high velocity. Yeyt, velocity is airflow rate/ area of section. So if you make the area of the section larger (piping) then it should lower the velocity, which should make the exhaust quieter. So I'm stumped and stupified, some things just can't be explained. Like, why does cheezecake cost so much? Why do business check books come in sections of 3? why not 2 or 4? Why was Jesus a carpenter? Why wasn't he a garbage man or something? Oh all the questions that will stay unanswered for all eternity.

I dont know much about your street car, or that pretty blue car in your sig. but be carefull where you park it when its dark, cuz Im known to get jiggy with peoples cars! "me? humping your car? Nah, Im sorry sir, Im very sorry, I thought it was someone elses, not a 6'8" person such as yourself. Well yah look at that, look at the time, I gotta go!"

b18bturbo- I got your message, thank you very much. But I have one last question for ya if you don't mind. Does the exhaust you reccomended with the resonator have that bassy drown to it? Its that interior bassy noise I don't like because it seems to be there at about 3000rpm, and thats where my car is 90% of the time just through regular daily driving.

Ask around about it. Most of the thermals setups with resonator are fairly quiet but when you get on it it opens throaty sound... but when crusiing its not raspy or anything its pretty clean sounding. similar to straight 6 with pipes

the rear and bottom bolt on the DP flange are a nightmare as it is, i couldnt imagine it with a 3". if you look at the stock drag 3 DP, it actually chokes down to around 2" so we cut it in front of the O2 bung and welded in a 2.5 to3" header reducer. works great, no leaks. GET THE 3".

Cool! My midpipe is already 3" so I only have to join the convertor to it and the muffler part to make is a complete 3" system. I can always install a resinator if it's too loud. Anyone have Car Sounds website?

i've posted this before, but i gained 20whp and 10ft/lb going from 2.25" setup to 2.75" dp and 3" all the way back. this was just a change in the exhaust system.
