Default 2.0L ls vtec turbo

Hey guys I am a Ls-turbo right now and there is a guy selling his 2.0L Ls Vtec motor for $5000 I guess its already built BRAND NEW w/o any miles on it...he said it has over $7000 invested in it but I'm not sure if I should trust him that it FULLY works and is BUILT correctly. He will send me pics and specs on it on what he did to it, but another question is if I should buy it or should I save that money and built MY motor that has 170k on it? And I would have to replace a whole buncha parts like the axels n stuff if I did buy that motor correct?

You can keep same axles if you swap over to the LS/VTEC setup.

Ask for receipts, detailed info on what's done to it, who built it, etc.

If you've got $5,000 to spend. Build your LS bottom end, buy a VTEC head and boost away.

the biggest thing is to find out what parts are in it, and to find out who did the assembly and machine work.

If it sounds good, and he doesnt sound shady... then go for it.

So building my own motor to go 2.0L lsvtec would be cheaper than if I bought it? I'll give you guys the specs when he sends them to see if its worth it deal...this is what he said....

I bought this motor brand-new and was not able to finish my project due to lack of funds...Javier @ JG Enginedynamics in CA screwed me over. Now I'm moving on...my loss, your incredible gain. This is a FULLY built, near bullet-proof, block and head, LS-VTEC bored to 2.0, turbo ready. As is, easily over 200hp at the wheels. With turbo and proper fuel and enginemanagement, easily 500+hp at the wheels. Able to safely handle up to 40 lbs. of boost. Brand new, the motor was $6000. Included, and installed, are Stage5 Clutchmasters clutch and lightened flywheel, able to handle 500hp, worth about $800. So, your getting a bullet-proof motor, clutch, and flywheel at an incredible price...about $2000 in savings! You'll have the fastest daily driver in town!

he hasnt given me the specs yet but hows it look?

1.) I f*cking hate when people give you that stupid, load of **** line. It just screams shady deal.
2.) If he built his block and such for $7000, then yes he did get screwed over like he said. There is just no way a block should be $7000 hahaha, I would actually laugh and say sorry about your luck if I was told that by someone.

I'm not saying you should do it because it's your own choice (so it's just as an example)......but you can have ERL sleeve your block, put new pistons (coated), rods, bearings, labor, etc, everything for $3800 out the door. Then an Exedy twin disk would be like $1200. Soooo that right there is just as nice if not better than what he listed, and I'm counting about $5000 total.
3.) I'm not seeing any information about the head. Is that included? If so, what is done to it? If not, I would DEFINITELY not buy it and I would do exactly what "19sec beast" stated.
4.) Good luck

lol I hate that line too DUNC, no he said that it cost $7,000 to build the motor including clutches cams, etc. blah blah, and I was wandering if this was a good deal or not guys I wasnt actually going to buy it yet...if it was I'd probaby part it out and put itin my car and sell the stuff I dotn need, and yes it does come with the head n stuff, but he hasnt said what is done to it... but a friend pointed out that it is better to build your own cause you learn from it

Definitely build it yourself. You will save money and grief.
