18-22 psi on SOHC, Questions
Hi, i want to push 18-22 psi on a fully built engine (1.6 SOHC non-vtec): head work, rods, pistons, guard.
And i would like to see your oppinions acheving it with a F-MAX turbo kit.
I´m also getting rid of the MF2 and the MSD Ignition controller that comes with the kit because i´ll be using an piggy back ecu (UNICHIP).
Now the thing is those additional injectors, should i use it (´cause the unichip can control those also), or should i get rid of those injectors and upgrade my fuel system, i was thinking of the following:
*AEM High Volume Fuel Rail
*AEM Adjustable Fuel Pressure Regulator
*RC Engineering 440cc Saturated Injector
Thanks

umm i have a non vtec engine........
18-22psi could be done with a closed deck not just block gaurd and alot of engine management

I'm assuming you want to do this on a decent sized turbo? Looking for what.. 350-400whp too? You can forget piggybacks, anything this serious will demand a good standalone. You're looking at 550cc injectors, built block (sleeved) and then some..

You would be amazed at what fine tuning and a block guard can do. All I'm saying is you dont always need to get your block sleeved.

I was running 18psi with my old D16Y8 turbo, not daily, but it could handle it. All i had was a blockguard, Link engine management piggyback ECU, pistons, and rods.

Re: 18-22 psi on SOHC, Questions (nathan's boosted civic)
wow,18psi is really pushing it with those tiny D rods, anywho,i boosted my stock D16Z to 14psi from time to time,i should have pushed it higher till it blew but i didnt want to destroy my turbo if like a piston broke and it sent pieces into the turbo, still wonder what psi it wouldve blown up at.

Re: 18-22 psi on SOHC, Questions (D-Man)
you will be fine with NO BLOCK, and rods, pistons, and GOOD TUNING, I have ran 19 psi on my d16z6 with no block guard and hondata,(rods and pistons)
i have had no probs. at all.... all you will do is spin the hell out the tires!!!

there are alot of stories about the guys that run 14-18psi on a stock sleeved block and stock internals, and yes sometimes you can pull that off. But the longevity of doing this? Well, in my opinion, even if it is tuned it is not the safest thing in the world to do. Avoid the hastles of blowing something up and having to replace things, just go ahead and do everything at once: good stand alone, 770cc inj, darton sleeves, pistons, rods, possibly T04E bb turbo, 255 walbro fuel pump, inline fuel pump, fuel rail, fpr, proper dyno tuning etc etc. Its better to be safe then sorry, but if you want to test out the limits of your car thats fine also, just make sure it is tuneeeeeeeed very well. good luck

Re: 18-22 psi on SOHC, Questions (Hayasa15)
I ran my block with Toyota 1G-GTE pistons (from a 1st generation 1G-GTE Twinturbo Supra engine) with modified B16A rods, stock D16Y8 crankshaft, and a 1-piece aluminium blockguard, with holes drilled into it according to the holes in my headgasket. I was running 8.2:1 compression with 1.2 bar of boost daily, and a TurboLink piggyback ECU from Link Engine Management (see my signature). I had four B18C additional injectors mounted directly into the intake ports of my intake manifold (click on my Civic link in signature for pictures). I pushed 1.6 bar one night, and overtook my friend's modified mitsubishi Lancer evolution III in 3rd gear. My sleeves have held up to the beating I give the car every day (lots of empty roads, and no speed limits over here in Thailand, so you can imagine that I would get on the accelerator quite a lot daily, atleast four or five 0-200km/h runs in a day, depending on my mood ) and the only things I kept breaking (every couple months) was a piston, just small holes on the sides, nothing drastic, due to my 5th gear full boost redline runs that i'd always be doing. If I was to drive the car respectfully, I don't think i'd be breaking anything. My setup isn't really complicated, and it works well. With the good air & weather conditions that you people have over in the US, you'd probably be making a lot more power than what I can in all this hot and humid weather
