100LL Aviation fuel on turbo H22
Hey guys, I have searched and found that this topic has been covered, but all posts were over 2 years old, and contained alot of speculation, hearsay, and very little actual experience. My question is will it be ok to use in my turbo H22 if I tune it for the new fuel? By the way, I have no cat and the O2 sensor comes right out after I tune. The reson is that I currently run 100 unleaded street legal race gas at $8 per gallon, while 100LL is going for $3.15. Any input is appreciated, especially personal experience, and any tuning advice.
Thanks All

yes, it will work... but keep in mind that the octane is measure via a different process than non-avgas, so it might say 100 octane but its really not

from all of the searches that I have done on HT, I have gathered a general consensus that 100LL is "dry" and low quality. I fly, my experience and training tells me otherwise. The lead in the fuel is actually a terrific lubricant, especially for the valves, and 100LL is of the utmost quality especially when compared to automotive gasoline.

100LL is 3.15 where you live...damn! I have to pay a huge surcharge now to fill the C172 I rent. I rent the airplane wet, but the rental rates are tipping 125/hr + 12.00 fuel surcharge because 100LL is 4.18/gal.

wow, I rent a 150 @ $75 per hour wet. My dad has a turbo C210 that I fly too, but most of the time it is easier just to rent the 150, he gets pissy if I rack up hours on his plane, I don't understand why, he's an A&P, he does all of his own maintenance, annuals and all...

from what i understand avgas has much better quality control than normal gas.. it is much less volitile than pump gas, but im not sure how that would effect things..
get some and try it, it cant hurt.

wow, bad idea
jet fuel is basically glorified diesel, very similar to kerosene
I know a lot of muscle car guys that run 100ll avgas and they love it.

10-4 to that. The qc on avgas is going to be much more stringent than regular gasoline. It would be real bad if your gas made your plane run like **** when your a few thousand miles up, much worse than just a bit of pinging in your n/a car.
I was under the presumption that avgas used (ron+mon)/2 just like pump, but I could be mistaken. As for the lead in it.......with the amount contained in it if u yoused a 50/50 mix you should be fine. I was gonna do this but my tuner wasn't to up do date on alternative fuels so I scrapped the idea. I would mosdef give it a try though. I think its a good idea for some extra octane at a very reasonable price. Here's a thread I made a while back on the same exact topic.

Edit: Just re-read my other post, I forgot that avgas is rated using the AKI index.

Well, it is a 150
I'm flyin a 1999 C172, and I'm about to move to the all glass mama they just got in
I belong to a local flying club. I can rent a 1978 C172 for about 85/hr wet, but dues are 50/month and lately I haven't had the funds with cars and life in the way. So if I only fly an hour here and there, it's not worth it to fly the old sloppy 172 they have.
I just go over to the flying school and rent there. You just pay some cash and off you go. Flying a new 172 was an eye opener for me after being so used to the slop 172RG I did my initial hours in. When I was doing power-on stalls, I came DAMN close to spinning one and the thought of spinning that old hunk was damn terrifying...lol.
Flying a 150 though...whew...is it a taildragger version? You got the stick and rudder skills bro ?

Im well aware of that hence the ( ) works fine if you got a diesel motor though, or even heat your house with it

Re: 100LL Aviation fuel on turbo H22 (RC000E)
no, it's tricycle, I really like it when I'm flying alone, I'm only 150lbs, but when I take a friend up (most of which are 180+) she tends to feel a little bit underpowered and less forgiving. (by the buy, im in CO right now going to school and the airport I use is 5900' ASL) This plane is actually pretty sweet though, its a 1983 c152 actually, LOADED IFR GPS and all kinds of goodies, the flight school I rent it from actually uses it specifically for instrument training. On occasion (when I can afford it) I rent a cirrus SR22, bitch is sweet.
