10.5:1 Pistons on a b16 with turbo?
Would you recommend this? I picked upo a set of srp forged pistons and I will be taking the motor apart here in a few hours. Sinc I am going turbo since I have a b16 and that has 10.2 to 1 compression. I wanted forged pistons in there so why would it not be smart to go 10.5 to 1?

Hear not so good things about the SRP's. You should look into some CP's, JE's, or Manley pistons and lower the comp if you are doing FI. You will still have low torque numbers (since the 16's are gutless at low RPM's even at stock rpm's) under the curve and the higher compression will lend to making it harder to safely tune.

I say do it, if you're plan on low boost! I hope you're changing rods since you're changing the pistons! But any ways every one likes high boost + high cr= Other than that have fun with the tuning!

ok I read up on it a little more. I think I will be using low comression pistons for the safety factor

sorry to thread jack, but i always thought high boost goes with low compressions? rather than high comm high boost. What's the power difference between the 2 besides the higher comm one being harder to tune

Re: (hoskos)
Typicaly the higher the compression, the less boost you need to make power. My friend put some jdm pistons in his b series. Supposebly high ten compression... and we throw 10 psi at it. Stock rods too.

Re: (coneheadsracing)
What are the power outputs? This summer I want about 350 to 400 hp. And since I already had these pistons avalable I thought why not ask first.

The 10.2 to 10.5 you want to jump too, won't make a difference really. Might want to get some rods too, since your already there. I don't know the power outputs of my friends car. It was with a sti turbo, i think his best was a 13.3 on some khumo streets. Easily capable of a high 12 with some colder weather.

thanks for tha advice. I will be going with low comp. Also I am going to do lsvtec turbo instead of a b16

Re: (blindingxenon)
there is less of a lag with higher compression
however it limits the ammount of psi you are able to run in the motor.
and it puts you closer to detonation.
if you get the right turbo for your project spool times arent anything to worry about
along with other things that effect spool times you can make great power with fast spool.
some people who run gt28rs see full boost at the upper 3ks which isnt bad
