***Looking for an Alternate to Oil Squirter Plugs***

Golden Eagle is backed up 3 weeks still on their oil squirter plugs. I'm wanting to get the motor done this week. Any other way I could do it? Someone said tapping it out and putting a brass screw in? Any reason for it to be brass and does it really need to be tapped out? Bottom end is already all together with the crank, rods and pistons in. Let me know.

get a 1/8 ntp tap the go to your local speed shop that sells an fitting and buy the plugs there most places will have a 1/8ntp plug in stock if not jegs or summit will have them

turbodohcsi 04-05-2006 04:42 PM

leave the squirters in there, is always an alternative.

Re: (turbodohcsi)

not if you are running forged internals i would just plug them and call it a day more oil pressure https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emthup.gif

BLKTeg94 04-05-2006 04:51 PM

I'm almost wondering if I could just go buy a bolt (10mm i think) And kinda make it look like the Golden eagles with a grinder? The be possible?? Then Chamfer it on the head so it'll tighten down? Does it have to be brass so it won't rust the motor?

Whats the thread diameter and pitch on these? You could always weld or epoxy the holes shut...

BLKTeg94 04-05-2006 05:55 PM

Ya I'd like to know the Thread diameter and pitch. I'm gonna go see what Home Depot has to offer. If anyone knows tha'd be awesome.

BLKTeg94 04-05-2006 06:22 PM

bump to find someone that knows!! :D

buy 1 of those and just check the threads...or buy 4 and close them off and then bolt them in

i am putting a buddys b18c together and we were thinking of doing the same thing. we were going to use the squirters out of a b16 but they hit the crank.. how would you block off the pr3 bolts like you said above.^^

if the motor is totaly tore down , I would just use the 1/8" pipe tap and tap them bigger , https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emthup.gif

Re: ***Looking for an Alternate to Oil Squirter Plugs*** (B18C1CYA)

well the crank is in and torqued. but i can always take it out. if i tap it out i will just plug it with a 1/8 pipe plug right???

Some race teams just bend them shut https://honda-tech.com/forums/images...es/emsmile.gif

Just weld the ends shut...

i am really gonna sound like a newbie...why would you want the to plug the oil squirter any reason behind this...thank you

although i don't agree with the decision to plug them....

Best idea i think is welding the tips of the squirters. seems like a very simple yet effective solution imo

First off, u wont find those bolts at any hardware or home-depot store.
The bolt size is 8mm by 0.75 thread pitch only a metric bolt specialty warehouse would have it. Dont try to weld the holes shut or anything like that cause if your not a bad ass tig welder you'll crack or distort the alumunim.
Either tap an 1/8 npt hole or take an 1/4in aluminum spacer with 2 brass crush washers on each side.

Whats the problem with a small tack weld covering the tips of the squirters?

sounds like he is referring to tack welding the hole in the block where the squirters go. not welding the tips of the squirters themselves shut

Re: ***Looking for an Alternate to Oil Squirter Plugs*** (DJ Gurgla GSR)

I had to plug them with some threaded plugs. I even tried grinding some of the bolt heads down but it would just not clear my LS crank in GSR motor.

PSI-spec 04-20-2006 12:39 PM

Re: ***Looking for an Alternate to Oil Squirter Plugs*** (DJ Gurgla GSR)

U could try tacking the hole shut but u run the risk of distorting the bolt. That bolt is hollow with a spring in it and it would probally leak and plus it's GHETTO.

https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emthup.gif the way i've always done it. hell, GE even did this for me once when i had a block sleeved by them.

I dont understand y u didnt just buy an ls block since u knew u were building a block and wanted to block the squirters off.??
