i was reading this old topic on a blockgaurd ( https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=276580 ) and came across some questions! does anyone have pro's and con's about a blockgaurd?? is it good to have one if boosting up to 13psi? what kinda boost can a blockgaurd handle? also I cant afford sleeves for a while so blockgaurd will have to do(unless an open deck is better) need opinions people also is there a correct way of instalation besides the obvious! it will be used on a b16 motor!!! or posibly a b18c1 block with b16a head! any info is usefull thanks

A block doesn't make your sleeves stronger or raise you threshold for boost...It there as protection just in case your sleeves crack. Its will protect your head and possibly the pistons from shrapenal.

I personally stayed away from it from fear of overheating...

the one thats possibly going in is the new RACE one! its got a shitload of holes for water to pass thru! its way better styled than most i've seen! Overheating , running hot is a major issue but i dont feel this gaurd will provide to much of that! just basicly need to know is it recomende or should the deck be open( remember i cant afford sleeves so dont even say it)lol!

blockguards are not substitutes for sleeves....resleeving actualluy stregthens the sleeves, blockguards don't (at least not the way you'd want them to)...I personally think blockguards are a waste of money...

They'd be good in any competition that didn't allow re-sleeving but did allow non welded reinforced blocks though. IE a blockguard.

Not worth it! Save your money and spend it on tuninig then you won't need a blockguard.

I agree with that too! Tuning is everything but what if u got it is it worth putting in???

I've had one in my block for the past 14mos. I was was a little worried about over heating problems at first but have never had a problem. I'v been on 8 trips over 500 miles and 3 of them over 850 miles. I'm very glad I spend the extra $99 on a block guard. Some how my 81.5mm block with stock sleeves is still holding together even after 18psi everyday and a few 22psi runs. I'm not saying the blockguard is why its still together or anything but it sure isn't hurting. How many of you that don't like block guards have personally had one in your own motor? I do wish I would have sleeved the block in the first place so I wouldn't be building another one right now but I just didn't have the $$$ last year.

cool that s kinda what i wanted to hear..just some experience with em! I will eventually go standalone but i'm wondering when i put my block together if its a good idea to throw it in! I got a friend that has a GSR block w/eagle rods and ARIAS 9:5 pistons in his motor for like 3 years! OPEN deck and DFI...has ran psi's of 18-25lbs...he uses it only for the track and has made up to 525hp with it! it just recently let go! He beats the hell out of it every run! had many trannys let go but the motor still held together..jus a thought
