*** just did a comp........ BLOWN HEADGASKET???? ***

1: 160
2: 140
3: 130

oil coming out the valve cover breather means you have blow-by or worn rings, i think.

Re: *** just did a comp........ BLOWN HEADGASKET???? *** (dustin)
dustin: ive done it a few times before... im pretty sure im doing it right..... i take out all pugs and i undid my fuel injector clips(since i couldnt find the fuel pump fuse) screwed the comp tester in and floored it and cranked it over about 5 times..... checked the comp, cleared it and did it again.... tested 3 times per cylinder and posted the highest numbers.
and oily air coming out of there is blow by or bad rings for sure?!??! NOOOOOOO
thats very bad news! is there any way i can fix this with out replacing my rings??
sometimes i really wonder why i love cars soo much!

make sure the car is warm during the compression test.
second, you have oil residue or smoke coming out of the valve cover breather, I am betting you have a blown rings and your compression will be way lower than the rest, for example on my car was 210 210 210 and 90. I cracked the ringland
and no, you need to pull the head, pistons and rods to repalce the rings

yah i let it idle until it was warm in my driveway for a few minutes when i tested it.... is that long enough??? and this is OT but how do i bleed the air from my coolant?? and if my ring are bad ill just tear this block down and build it.... but god damn it!! is there a way to check to see if my head gasket is blown for sure?? and what pistons could i put in my b18a??

for b18 a, any be series pistons will work...depending on your bore size....unless you;re staying with stock bore ( 81mm)
to bleed the air from coolant....let the car idle with the radiator cap off....you'll see buble coming out of it...and let it idle until the fan comes on at least twice. then fill it up and fill the reservoir as well and put the cap back on
my next sugegstion is to do a leakdown test to see how bad you're leaking...
any shop with a leakdown tester and an air compressor can do it..pay them 20 bucks or so...
change the oil and coolant and re-check again if there's any coolant in the oil and vice versa..

One way is to see if you are filling the coolant overflow tank. That is how I knew mine was in bad shape.

ok i think my rings are blown!! damn it........ im gonna pull it apart sell my little greddy turbo and do LS/vtec........ i can get a b16 head that has 3 angle valve job, p&p and some other stuff for freee since he owes me money and he'll replace my pistons for free and me and him will do the swap. damn this sucks! i really wanted to go with a new t3/t04e turbo but now i cant afford it after fixing the rings and stuff!!! ggrrrrrrrrr
maybe it was never meant to be!

Is this true??? i have some oil vapor that comes out of my valve cover breather, very little and barely noticeable.

it has to be excessive to be a major blow by....it's normal to have a lil....

Sounds like the ring landings too me. I had the same thing happen. Why is it that #3 is always the worst??
