#*%&^@..... My turbo DP bolt threads are stripped, what should i do?
The god damn flange for the DP got bent while it was being welded, and when i was bolting the DP on if f***ing stripped the hole on the upper left of the 5 bolts. I dont know what to do.
get it machine and have them fill the holes then redrill them? drill them out bigger? weld on studs?
Anyone know where to go in the CA bay area to get this done (near oakland)?
If u know any APPROXOMATE prices, id like to know. i wanna keep this under $100 if possible. thanks.
damn.

Helicoil. Stripped threads aren't the end of the world. Hell, many machinists prefer to drill out threads of soft metals and install helicoils.

well, its the HOLE thats stripped, not the stud.
Whats helicoil, and where can i get it/how can i install it etc etc.
I need to machine my dp flange, so ill be going into a machinist anyway, can they do it? dyou know how much it would be?
oh and last thing: would it be super mad tight JDM? lol, thanks fellas, im at the end of my rope here.

same thing happened to me.
i just tapped the holes and it was all good. another good thing to do when welding the downpipe on is to either make a jig or have the downpipe flange flatten out by a machinist after it has been welded.

also, if theyre drilling out the holes etc is thre any way theyll mess up the turbo? theres just a minnnnniscule amount of shaft play (its new) and i was wondering if all the rattling etc would worsen it?

just cover the hole on the flange with welds thats what i did. theres no point of pulling the turbo and drillin that one hole.

but then my downpipe would be welded to my turbo, which i really dont want, since its a total bitch to get it off. 3 in DP on a prelude is hard as **** to get on and off.
plus the turbo is out of the car, its being built, so no worries.

no. take the dp off the turbo and you just cover the hole with welds and then bolt it on only using 4 bolts. So you dont have a exhaust leak.

Yikes! Noone here uses helicoils?
A Helicoil looks a bit like a spring, but doesn't stretch. They are made out of hardened steel and come in affordable kits.
A place to buy online: http://jcsonlinetoolshed.com/section.php/111/0
How to use them: http://www.roadstarmagazine.co...d=233
And yes, any machine shop will know what a helicoil is and they aren't expensive. My local shop charges $10 per Helicoil, though they are easy to do yourself. I like to install helicoils in the exhaust manifold stud holes of aluminum heads. Makes me feel more confident that I won't jack my head.
