I plan on boosting my 1988 accord i talked to a shop at in mount juliet were i live they said that they would have to do custom piping an some re routing some parts and taking out the ac and installing an inter cooler as well as tuning it the guy said that the project would get started if i lay down a grand but the project would not cost more that $1700. Tell me what ya think and if this is a reasonable price as well as what other monds do i need to do before i slap the turbo on this b***ch thanks

Find out what other cars that shop has done, find out how the cars are doing & how long they were tied up and much they were charged. There have been MANY people on here give their money and parts to a shop in good faith, only to be screwed ROYALLY in the end. If your run-on sentances are any indication, that shop will have any easy time doing that to you.

The turbo kit is only haf the battle though - tuning is the MOST important part. From what I know, there have been major problems with people converting their OBD0 preludes/accords to use tunable Honda ecus. Honestly, it will be far cheaper/easier to get a newer Honda to throw a turbo on.

Time for you to do LOTS of research.

I hope they are not talking about just labor and tuning is $1700 because that would be outrageous. But then $1700 for any kit, labor, and tuning is to low.

Which is it?

no the labor is included as well as tuning the shop did a crx and it happens to be a bud of mine. the car runs great but does not pass emmitions so he has a different address for that. Also the shop hires a professional guy from Nashville that will do the custom piping and tuning and every thing else. But what internal work will i also need to have done as well.

I would look into getting some new pistons, rods, head studs.

My shop does custom turbo setups and this is my breakdown for comparison.

Basic install/setup/includes basic street tune on STOCK map only-$1300.00

This includes mocking/TIG welding/backpurging of all charge piping/downpipe/dump tube. This includes installation and mounting of the intercooler, oil lines, and coolant lines. This also includes installation of injectors, and resistor box if necessary. In addition, this includes chipping of an obd1 ecu, along with startup and basic street tune. Lastly, this includes install of all necessary vacuum lines and fittings.

I make the mani's for the customers generally, will install any support systems (elec. boost control, gauges, aftermarket map etc) at an extra cost. Generally out the door customers, with parts included, look to spend anywhere from 2300-4000+ based on components used.

I have many references I can provide to prospective customers, many cars locally, as well as turnaround time estimates that I can give.

If you've seen their work, and its clear what 1700.00 is getting you, then decide from there.

To be honest I would suggest you save up the money and get a different car.
Even a 1990-up accord would be a better choice imo.
