2002 Accord F23A4 auto, low power on hills and fishbite roughness on flats.
No CEL.

187K miles, well maintained, one owner (me).

Last year it could climb a certain 8% hill in 3rd gear, 50mph.
This year, same hill shifts down to 2nd gear, 40 mph.

Also noticing fishbite roughness on flat roads at steady 40-50mph.
Cruises at 75mph well. Idles well.

Not sure if it's a motor issue or a tranny issue.

Here's what I've done:

compression test - 180/170/185/180
vacuum test - 20" steady at idle, does not drop at high rpm
exhaust backpressure test - 1.5psi at 2500 rpm

adjusted valves - they were about right

fuel pressure - 44psi at idle, 50psi at higher rpm
I did not check fuel pressure when driving up the hill.

Air filter is clean.

New NGK plugs and wires (they were due for replacement)
New Honda distributor cap and rotor (also due)

I checked the 2 dual trans solenoids.
Linear was clean and within spec for ohms.
Lockup screen was very dirty, I cleaned it out. Ohms in spec.
Did not check the lower 2 solenoids.

Changed the trans fluid with Idemitsu type H-plus, 3x drain and fill.
Old fluid was not bad, I've done 25K mile drain and fill for a long time.
A little material on the mag drain plug.
Today I added a tube of Lube Gard Transmission Lubricant Instant Shudder Fixx, did not seem to help.

I have not checked the egr valve/passages or the injectors.

Running out of ideas.
Comments are welcome.

Hey Just wondering how many of you have had to replace a head gasket. My son's car is overheating and burning white smoke. I haven't done any further investigation into the motor, just seems like a pretty straight forward answer with those symptoms.

What would people suggest for the next steps. I don't have the tools or really the the time to try and fix. How easy are parts to find for this job. Costs would likely exceed the value of the car. Are their crate motor swaps available?

Thanks for your input.

G'Day Honda Peeps.
Firstly, thanks in advance for all the input that you may give.

1991 Honda Accord 2.2L Automatic. Got er for my daughter. Had a wicked leaking oil pan gasket. But this is no prob. Just had move a few things to get er done.

It ran pretty ok for approx.160km, (90 ish miles). Then immediately started stalling while braking (city speeds). A slight shudder in reverse also appeared with a noticably lower rpm, (500 ish... normally 900).

We did the usual refreshments when buying a "new to us" car, fresh oil, filter, fuel filter & plugs. Oil pan gasket as well.

After discovering the stalling issue, we then proceeded to do:
- a compression test (135/135/125/125)
- a vaccum test (18 psi)
- coolant system leak down test (held firm, at 15 psi)

After that was all done, we then:
- installed a new PCV
- cleaned the PCV ports, the IACV and throttle body with carb cleaner
- pulled the injectors and cleaned accordingly
- lightly fogged the vaccum lines to see if there was an idle increase
- replaced the IACV with a used (and known to be good) one

There is fuel pressure in the rail before and after it stalls, (but no actual fuel pressure test).

I can only think that there is a few things left. But wonder if anyone here can give some insight as to what may be the next best attempt before we go down that route. We will be doing a fuel pressure test to see if the pump is peetering out.

I have heard that a faulty torque converter can have these symptoms.
Possibly fuel pump
Possibly new IACV
We are getting pretty discouraged. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
:boom:
Thx

Hello,

I am looking for assistance and troubleshooting a 1990 Honda Accord that has a high idle problem. When I fire up the car it will stay at around 3,000 RPM and not go down.

I replaced the idle solenoid and Idle air control valve. And by replaced I mean I got two at Pick-n-Pull to test and troubleshoot. From what I can tell these are not the source of the problems. I've also ensured that my coolant is up to level.

In addition to troubleshooting with spare parts from Pick-n-Pull, I've also removed these and deep clean them and blew them out with compressed air, flushed them out with carb cleaner and clean them with a wire brush.

Where would you troubleshoot next? What am I missing? What else controls the idle?

Here's a video that helps demonstrate what I'm talking about.

Hey yall. Hope you all are doing well.

I recently purchased a dead 92 accord that had been sitting for about 7 years. Finally got it running and going through a list of issues and refreshing stuff.

Currently, im getting a Code 43 and a code 1 on the car. Ive already replaced the 02 sensor with a new one(i used a Bosch, but it looks like i should be using a Denso instead? Do they read different and make a significant difference to the ecu?).

In general, the car runs great for the first 10-15 miles. Then starts sputtering and feels severely underpowered after. When having disconnected the battery and replaced to new sensor however, it drives incredibly well. Idles perfectly on cold start.

And just so yall have this, here's what ive replaced in case it matters.
Fuel Pump
Fuel Filter
Distributer Cap
Rotors
Spark Plug Wires

Would love some direction on this. I have a multimeter coming in soon to test the sensor and circuitry as well as the Haynes manual. Never had a car this old before. So learning this on the spot. Would like to get this smogged by the end of the week.
