Resetting the check engine light on my '03 CR-V
The car seems to be running great, but the check engine light is on?
How do I find out why?
My 1st thought is to re-set it off & see if it comes back on?
Thanks in advance, I have a 1,500 mile trip coming up & would like to figure this out before hand but only will have maybe one day to deal with it.

Do not attempt to reset the PCM as all diagnostic info will be lost. Most part stores (Autozone, Advance Auto Parts, O'Reilley's etc.) will scan for free. This will get you the dtc and a definition of code set. Common problems are cat efficiency(P0420), and misfires(P0301-P0304) due to improper valve adjustment.

My Mechanic confirmed what I forgot about, It started show the check engine light after my Cat was stolen along with the 2 sensors that are attached.
So he reset it for me. :D

Re: Resetting the check engine light on my '03 CR-V
It can be due to missing or faulty gas cap that keeps check engine light on. The pressure inside your gas tank is thrown off-kilter when the gas cap is off or not secured properly. To your car's on-board diagnostic system, or OBD system, a change in pressure could indicate a leak in the emissions system, so the light is triggered to alert you to the problem. Replace the missing cap or tighten the existing one to see if the problem goes away. If the problem is not solved you must visit car service center.
