Non-VTEC Cam Trigger Mount
 

Anyone know if someone makes a non-vtec cam trigger mount for hall effect sensor similar to the T1 trigger bracket or the Delacruz Motorsports one? I've been looking for a while now and everyone calls their vtec bracket a b-series bracket so that really muddies up the results. Nothing relevant found so far.

Am I missing something; is there a reason they are calling them b-series brackets when they don't fit on a non-v B?

Delacruz makes the under cam bracket, but I prefer the PS bracket location because I like to still run my timing covers. A PS bracket style one is easy to notch a timing cover for (I've got it like that on my na itb vtec setup now, but I'm going turbo sleeved B20 non-v...)

Or I just mount it in my valvecover I guess. Haven't seen it on a honda but miatas do it that way I see.

I have the Delacruz kit already. The crank trigger mounts to all B series the same, but I just have to figure out the cam sensor. (Using haltech). But I think mounting the hall effect pickup in the non-vtec valve cover will work fine. Can't believe there was never a non-vtec t1 trigger sensor mount ever made though. Lots of boosted LS motors out there.

I don’t think mourning it in the valve cover is a very accurate location since it sits on a gasket. You’d arguably have to re-home it every time you pulled the cover. You really need something that’s hard mounted not it’s to be reliably in the same position every time you fire up.

Maybe use something like the Honed positioner for the cam and your choice for the crank?

Thats a very good point. May be worth your time to come up with a design for mounting. Then have a machine shop mill one out. Or even someone with a 3d scanner. Im sure hatchy would help you out if you had a good drawing or cardboard mock up. Most 3d printing guys like a challenge and doing new stuff

So in regard to 're-home' the sensor, there is no calibration I can find within haltech as to the offset degree such as the crank. How would one go about doing that?

My next contradictory find is the non-vtec mount from delacruz mounts it at a totally different location on the cam gear vs the 2 vtec mount styles. This makes me assume the home position is not a fixed amount + or - offset from the crank position.

My understanding that I need to verify is that the haltech will sync the home sensor where ever it is, it doesn't matter, and it will automatically determine crank degree and correlate engine phase.

Since miatas do it in the valve cover and they have a gasket might that be a non-issue? I don't see the valvecover moving all that much even with engine vibrations, that sucker is pretty solid.

You’re correct actually, the cam sensor is really only for sync. I was thinking back to a discussion from years ago about the valve cover issue where the sensor was the dual magnet style that also did crank position off of the cam gear.

I think I’d still prefer to have it hard mounted somewhere, but maybe that’s me overthinking. Another benefit of machining a spot on the valve cover would be the ability to keep all of your covers in place.

I should have a non-vtec ac bracket mount made, ideally. That would be hard mount. I'm also pressured for time, trying to get this build completed in the next 2 weeks for Gridlife Circuit Legends... lol.

I was really hoping I could just order one. Or find someone with a non-vtec t1 trigger setup to get their take (since they are way more common than delacruz based on time on the market etc). Probably wing it like below. Love trying new things :D
