Default Is a Canadian Obd2 scanner & codes different than those used in the US?

Not sure where else to ask this, so I値l start here.

looking at grabbing an obd2 scanner, Veepeak specifically. Mostly for my own entertainment than anything. I値l use an app like Fusion or Car Scanner.

Looking at the notes on the item on amazon it says for cars 1996 and up in the US, but 1998 in Canada. Any idea why? Isn稚 an OBD2 car an OBD2 car no matter what?

Thanks for any insight.

Car is a 1996 Civic obd2 car.

To anyone looking at this down the road.

i picked up a veepeak obd2 Bluetooth scanner. It works fine with a 1996 Canadian obd2a ecu.

It did not work with a 1996 JDM ecu.
