YCP Pistons What Rods?

Hey guys i have YCP 84.5mm floating pistons for my b20vtec. My problem is the piston clearance for the rod is small. Not sure what aftermarket rod will fit.

Looking at specs looks like skunk2 might fit piston end width is .827. Eagle is .935. Manley is .849. YCP clearnce is just a tad larger than skunk2. YCP rod clearance is .850.

Whats everyones experience?

I am afraid of this happening:

Shave the small end of the rod about 0.040 inch per side. Its the same practice with ctr piston on b16a rod :)

I just did this on my new "K" build. Time consuming, but it works like a champ. Cutting the rod takes more weight off of the rotating assembly than removing material from the aluminum pin bosses... I cut .030" from each side of the rods and averaged a reduced rod weight of 4.4 grams each.

If you don't want to modify the rods, you can buy aftermarket rods with a narrower pin end and you will be fine. Measure the opening between the pin bosses on the back of the piston and make sure that the rods that you choose has a NARROWER pin end width. ;)

Thanks for the tip guys. I bought Skunk2 Alpha rods and they fit without having to do any machining work. Not sure why the guy in the youtube video didn't fit.

because ycp pistons quality control is not the best ive had the same problem in you tube video with b20 stock rods even. glad your works you want .030-.050 side to side clearance with rod centered in the piston.
