Replace valve seals on JDM import motor?
I recently swapped a new (to me) B18B into my 96 RS teg. I did a quick compression test just to see where it was at and got 180 psi across the board. I've been driving it for the past 1000 miles and it's driven great. I was just wondering if valve seals can degrade over long periods of time not being used. As you know, most of these "low mileage import engines" have been sitting for a while. I actually found the date 02/07 on the oil filter that was on it. I'll do a leak down test on it whenever I get around to it but just wanted to see what you guys thought, knowing they sat for around 10 years Unused.

is it burning oil on startup, is it burning oil when off gas in higher revs? If not why are you going to waste your time.

Doesn't seem to be burning oil on startup but I haven't had someone to drive behind me and check the engine breaking yet so I'll do that.

Re: Replace valve seals on JDM import motor?
Valve seals are a half useless little thing. What happens is when the seals are bad, and the car sits, oil runs down the stem passed the seals, lubricating your guides, and it burns oil on startup lubricating everything else. So it's a good thing. 😝. If it doesn't burn oil on startup, then it is doing what the manufacturer wants them to do.
