Oil Pump question

Im assembling a b20vtec and was wondering if the oil pump with the part number 15100-PR4-A03 would work and fit on my b20z2. I've read that since its an obd1 pump going on to an obd2 block something about the timing belt cover wont fit? or are there any modifications I can do to make it work?

Re: Oil Pump question

First, why not just get the PROPER oil pump for your engine ? It only costs about $20 more and then you wouldn't have to deal with the lower timing cover issues. Part number for what you need is 15100-P72-A01.

If you try and use the early pump, the newer lower timing cover will have to be trimmed in lots of places and you will lose the lower rubber seal around the bottom third or so... and in the end, you will have some movement of the cover and it will likely make contact with the back side of the crank pulley and get a hole rubbed into it. Ghetto fabulous. The right way is to use the oil pump and lower timing cover that match. ;)

Re: Oil Pump question

Ended up going with the proper oil pump. Thanks for the info. I didn't feel like trimming the cover so I just took the L on the pump I already had and ordered the proper one.

Re: Oil Pump question

You can always put that pump up for sale and get some of your $$$ back... or, keep an eye out for the proper lower timing cover that you need and pick that up. This way, the next time you need a new oil pump, you already have it on the shelf. ;)

"Maybe this plan will help you https://www.newkidscar.com/engine-co...-sump-diagram/. Oil leaks sometimes have a place on the engine sump.

What ?!? The OP's question had nothing to do with leaks... it was about the lower timing cover that he possesses fitting properly over an oil pump casting that is designed for a different style cover. Oil pan sump design has no influence on this particular issue.
