Damage on block...re-useable or no?

https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/honda-t...5bb3ea7782.jpg

Bought this car and the previous owner said the car was over heating. Took off the head and the block has some chipping. Can the machine shop repair this? Or can I just slap on another head gasket and drive it. Lmk because I hate trying to find another motor if I don't have too.

Side note: cylinder 2 and 3 had a little bit of coolent while the 1 and 4 had not coolent in it. This chipping is by cylinder 4.

What you should is take a straight edge and check to see if there's any warping on the block, if when you pulled it apart and there was no coolant in that area or inside the cylinder then while it is chipped, it shouldn't have been the cause of overheating. Was the gasket in ok shape in that area?

I see that a lot on older engines where tap water or not enough coolant is run and it eats away at the outside. Normally it should not be an issue. I also recommend making sure the deck is flat. If warped it will have to come apart and decked. Depending on how deep, it might be able to be surfaced out.
