B18c1 rebuild help fo a honda noob
Hey guys, trying to help my buddy with his turbo b18c1 setup. I gave him the turbo and engine i picked up from a friend a few years back. Got it in the car, ran at idle but needed tuned badly. Tuner did compression check and leakdown and said it failed leakdown test. So we have pulled the head and im having some questions since i didnt buold this motor im trying to figure out whats in it to order new parts.
heres what i know:
block has been sleeved and bore measures 83.5. Headgasket measures 83.85 and is mls felpro or oem not sure. Has ARP head studs. Aftermarket cams, cam girdle. Prescision 76mm turbo, biggest damn header and down pipe ive ever seen on a honda lol. Big intake manifold and AEM rail 500cc injectors and Walbro 255 pump. Guy i got engine from had dyno sheet when it was in his EG hatch 418 whp.... engine sat in my garage 4 yrs.
unknowns: im not sure the stroke, what rods are in it, or what crank all i was told was forged everything
i noticed after pulling the heads that the piston seems to be looser in the bore than im used to (domestic ls and sbc stuff) i can move it around maybe .30 by hand...
SO FINALLY THE QUESTIONS lol:
1. Does anyone know what an aftermarket 83.5mm piston actually measures with proper clearance?
2. What headgasket measurements should i be looking for to order new ones?
3. Copper, mls, or what...cometic? (prob 15 psi with 76mm precision turbo)
4.What ring gap are the boosted guys running?
5. Side question, anyone know why a ecu with hondata is so damned expensive? Dude is quoting 1500 to tune the damn thing lol
