Surge Tank

Why surge tank?
I've been looking at different fuel systems and was wonder what is the reason for using a surge tank? And would a surge tank benefit Honda racers?

Check out the Real St Performance YouTube channel. They have a pretty good video on surge tanks, what they do, and why you might need one.

From what I read it is used to ensure that even in extreme situations of lateral G force, the engine doesn't starve for fuel.
