Storing Slicks Questions
Hey guys, I was just wondering what everyone is doing for storing slicks for the short term? I found the thread on how to properly store them over the winter, but whats the best way to store them for 2-3 weeks at a time? In plastic bags, blanket, air in them and if so how much, no air in them, standing up, laying down, stacked, side by side, etc. I just want to make sure I am maximizing this new sets longevity.
Thanks
Thanks

john from M&H should have some insight, i am sure he will chime in...
...moderators -- can we think about putting together a FAQ thread for the Drag Racing forum? there are several questions that happen frequently that would fit well in a FAQ section - just a thought...

Re: Storing Slicks Questions
I know when I store mine over winter, I store them in the basement, so that they don't freeze, and not crinkled with anything piled on them. Not sure its effective, but meh.

I store mine (still on the rims) on buckets so that the slicks do not touch the ground/anything else. I also store mine at room temp in open air.

#1- Let the air out.
#2- Lay the slicks on there side.
#3- Cover them up.

Re: Storing Slicks Questions
Is there any thing to wipe on them to keep them from drying out?
I got some old slicks that are getting dry cracks/rot. wonder if there is a way to prevent that. they have plenty of tread left so it seems a waste to trash them.

The best thing to do here is inside. Under your circumstances, get a 55-Gallon plastic bag and lay one slick down on it's sidewall and the other on top. Put the plastic bag over the slicks and cover them up with a banket. If it rains alot in your town, put a plastic bag over the blanket.
Be SAFE and Good Luck.

Re: Storing Slicks Questions
Once they start dry cracking / rot, it's time to change them out. I would spend $300.00 for a pair then $3,000 in repairs on you car. If money is tight, save up and get a new set the track will always be there. The main word here is SAFETY, what is the old saying measure twice cut once.
Good Luck and be SAFE.

i keep mine in bed with me. every now and then i pull a dutch oven, this is necessary to keep the compound within the rubber active as the molecules rapidly move around hoping to get as far from the smell as possible. rotate the tires every time you dutch oven them for equal distribution.
