roll cage question? back seats?
planning on doing a full cage in the car but i really cant standhaving no back seats, i also read in the nhra rules the bars have to be straight. how can i get away with back seats besides putting a hole in red typr r rears which will make me cry and also have it legal to pass tech in the states?

You can have a bend in the rear bars. I have seen plenty of cars including my own that had a bend in the rear bars.

Good info. Im in the same boat, I want to retain my rear seats also, and was under the impression that you couldnt bend the rears.

Im working on the same thing right now in my car. Is there any limit on how high the bars can be up in the rear. I was just going to follow the roof line all the way down to the rear pillar.

You can look @ www.customrearseatdelete.com for a very clean way of getting rid of the back seats. It doesn't save you any weight though.

yea you can have back seats, but that ssh!t does not look safe at all like serious dude. If you get pulled over in that thing at least in cali, cop is gonna chew your ***. regardless of head space. just saying i think if you want a cage then you should have seats removed whats the point of a cage and back seats so people be like damn his car is tracked out. a cage is not practical so for having people in the back get a car that you wont want to put a cage in. just saying doo .02 cents.

Yes, the car will pass inspection with the bars bent like that. My own car has the same bend and the cage got cetified by a NHRA inspector

Yeah, mine passed tech 100's of times. I ran it on NHRA tracks all over the country. Never had problem going trough tech at any sanctioned event.

I was going to tuck mine up real high like Ricks cage is. Where you almost can't see it from the outside....
Any problem in that? is there a certain angle they have to be at? My Gti has Long rear pillars that i want to follow.

That is crazy that those pass tech.
That is expressly forbidden in any type of sanctioned road racing. Funny how different the rules are on safety.

It should be banned and I'm actually surprised NHRA hasn't. A bend like that compromises the strength of the tube significantly.

I can't find anything in the rules that say those bars have to be straight. I assume you guys are getting this by looking at the pictures. The pictures of the cage are not neccesarily exactly how they have to be. If that were the case, none of these cars would have ever passed cert.

Re: roll cage question? back seats?
My cage was bent around the rears in my integra and I never had an issue getting tech'd. In fact at my local track I was told "finally a car that should pass tech coming through here." Im doing the same thing in my civic this time around. Its not to put people back there but it is to keep it a street sleeper. Tuck everything up high along the roofline.
