Renewal of NHRA License
So my NHRA "Sport Compact" License expires at the end of the month. Contacted NHRA and they told me since there is no "Sport Compact" division anymore i must apply for an "ET" license, retake the physical, and pay $100 to rejoin NHRA again. Just seeing if this is what everyone else is doing also?

Re: Renewal of NHRA License
yup, all fees went up and nhra employees took a 10% paycut. entrance fees for division and national events actually doubled.
renewal is 100
new lic is 150
entry fees vary depending on which class you race, but all were doubled

And there's no option, is there? Can't race (assuming you run 9's) w/o an NHRA license, can't get a license w/o being a member, even if you don't run with NHRA, right?

one of 2 things you can do here.
1. pay the membership fees as et or comp. and get your renewal.
2. dont renew your membership and you will not get a competition lic.

Re: Renewal of NHRA License
no options at all. beings almost all tracks are nhra sanctioned tracks, they have to abide to these basic nhra rules when it comes to general safety rules and membership/license fees.
by the way, ihra actually reduced their membership and license fees (entry fees stayed the same).
the thing that sucks the most is that contingency money has decreased big time. at a simple divisional race, making it to the semis yielded you about 6k about 5-7 years ago. today you make it to the finals and your lucky to get 3k in contingency.

Re: Renewal of NHRA License
you will have to apply for ET category. this will probably affect all your comp #'s too, as sport compact had a whole different set of comp #'s vs ET has everyone else on the planet. i had to have letters be in mine lol

Yes fees have gone way up. Dont forget the chassis cert as well. That is another 150 bones. National event entry fees are going to be close to 300 bones for a sportsman car, Crazy!

i used to wish MIR was a NHRA track....now i couldnt be happier that its an IHRA track.
sounds like NHRA is trying to dig their grave. how could you possibly try to raise prices at a time when nobody has any money?

Re: Renewal of NHRA License
As a follow up - I contacted Bob Lang who is the NHRA Div. 1 Director. Anyone who is up for license renewal will be converting their SC #'s to ET #'s with a $100.00 Renewal Fee, A physical must be done every two years for renewal.
License Application

Physical Form

P.S. For those who don't know - Chassis Certifications expire 3 years from the date you got your chassis certified.

Re: Renewal of NHRA License
Sorry to go back 3 months for a thread... but..
Question about the passes.
Can you get a license if you're trapping 131-134 in the 10's?
In a few weeks we're putting a new engine in my car. If I'm not trapping 140+ I'm going to be utterly disappointed. 700+whp in a 2100# car with driver.
The point being, I want to get my NHRA licence now so I can make passes when we get the engine in the car, and NOT get booted after the first pass. Don't want no drama!
I don't want to get booted after the first pass, and I want to get my ducks in a row now.
Car is already cert'd 8.50, have all my safety gear, etc. I don't care about the money part of it.

Re: Renewal of NHRA License
I didn't have any problems getting mine signed at 135+mph and didn't run 9s. I would just ask another licensed driver to sign off on the passes or bring a copy of the rule book stating you must have a license at 135+mph.

Re: Renewal of NHRA License
I know it's speculative, but do you suppose if I got the first 4 outta the way, I could show up at the next track and get in the last two 135+ passes with the new engine and nobody would bitch? Or do they all have to be done on the same day, at the same track?

Re: Renewal of NHRA License
seems like it is all up to the track u go too... there is no rule for doing it the same day, yet some tracks give u a hard time about it.
-NHRA says u have to run 135 or faster, but yet some tracks (happened to me) wont sign for that without running 9.99 or quicker.
i think u should be fine doing the first 4 runs now, and make sure ur car is up too spec safty wise, become friends with the track manager so they remeber u and do the 135+ 2 passes at a later date, just dont wait toooo long or they will forget you
