Rear spring rate with wheelie bars?
 

Can some of you guys using wheelie bars give me an idea of what rear spring rate you are running? Thanks!

There's 2 school's of thought.

1 says, use super low rate springs...

1 says continue using 900lb springs, because then you are off the wheelie bars after the launch, lowering drag and letting you mph higher.

I believe in a softer spring rate but in conjunction with a proper shock that is setup for Drag racing. You would need a shock adjustment that would give a fast return up after the wheelie bar touches the ground, but not too fast going up that it would have to travel too much to go back down. heres my thought. You actually want the back end to come down really easy, but want it to go back up slow. Riding the bars the whole track isnt a bad thing. Its just lengthening the wheelbase and the car will run smoother on them. I think it the back end can come back up in a run, when you shift and it smacks back down, its kinda makes a shell shock on the front end. I still run a stiff spring in the back but I could be going about it all wrong. If you had the money, get 1 pair hard and one soft...i mean, all setups are different anyways.

interesting, so a double adjustable shock/strut with a 150-200 or so lb. spring???or alot less lb. spring????

We are actually going to test 80lb springs on our car with the traction bars. in theory it should do what we want. Just like Mike said you dont want the car to unload to much and bang back down between shifts. Like I said we are going to try them and see what happens.

id have to say some that have multiple adjustments, one for compresion and another one for rebound

see, you want the car to come down and ride the bars...and not be able to lift back up. Thats mosts peoples idea.

The way that we figure it we will be on the bars for a long time, I don't know exactly how long beacause they have not been tested. I would say somewhere around 1/8 th mile?
