Putting the Bseries vitara's to the test

Nippon racing makes 81.5mm cast pistons like the Vitara's which should hold 400-500hp no problem since the Dseries are already well past.

The problem with the Nippon pistons is that they do not come with wrist pin locks or the grooves for them. But I fixed that issue. Here is a set I just did where I machined in spiral lock grooves so they now have full floating wrist pins.

Of course 400-500hp on the stock block is a cracked sleeve waiting to happen. This block also got the CSS treatment to make sure the pistons fail first.

Be sure and let us know how long they last at that HP level.

Good idea there about cuttinga groove there.

ya, i know a lot of people use stock rods but if one breaks your blcok is junk, so i had to do something. thanks and i'll def keep people posted.

i wonder if they will b as good as the vitara's??

Re: Putting the Bseries vitara's to the test

they look identical and ring lands are the same thickness, so unless there there lying about the cast aluminum there using they will perform just as well.

great build up, im sure you can put down some power with the vitara Bs

the nippon vitaras are NOT nearly as strong as the ycp brand vitaras, someone needs to get with ycp and have a set made...

the nippons look more like a stock honda piston than a ycp vitara, just a FYI...

how do you know? i have both the vitara's and the nippons and they way more like each other than they do to a stock piston. ????? and most important the ring lands are both much larger than stock pistons and they both claim to be made rom similar casting material. so again how do you know there not nearly as strong???

any idea what those pistons weigh compared to wiseco's or cp's?

tia :)

I noticed that each piston is buffed on the left side- what is that for?

HUH??? stock B18c sleeves can handle 500 for years, check it out my car makes 510 on 20 psi. after 2 years and over 16k miles and countless passes i decided to crank it up and see if i could get 140 mph, at 25-26 psi it cracked a sleeve, what happened was the 93 octane was well past its limit and it cracked from detonation. i still had to be close to 600 hp at that point and if i had used higher octane im sure it would have been fine. it still made 25 passes back to back in 95 degree heat before it blew lol.

i don't have a gram scale but holding them in my had there definitely lighter than a set of CP's i have.

??? that is how they cam from nippon.

Im pretty sure he was saying that as more of a sales pitch for his css cylinder support system than actual fact. Theres tons of people who take stock sleeves past 400-500hp with no problem.

Thats what I'm hoping the CSS helps to prevent.

So what did you do? Do you weld the deck then CNC water pass through holes and deck the block?

your hoping it prevents cracking from detonation? why not just run high enough octane and be done with it? i needed a broken block to send out to get sleeved so i was just testing 93 octanes limit, but normally no one takes 93 octane that far. i got news for yah if you detonate as much as i did them cast pistons are gonna shatter taking them nice sleeves with them ;)

there are even more people with cracked sleeves at that power level.

yeah from bad tunes and or detonation not from the power it self. i know people who have ran 600+ on stock sleeves on very good tunes and race gas and never cracked for a entire race season, yeah they went out of round :) but never cracked. its all in the tune :) sleeves arent a band aid for bad tunes or allow you to run lower octane, they just will put up with it much longer.

i actually machine a minimal amount of material around the cylinders and the outside of the water jacket so the support ring fits with an exact fit. the ring is pressed in with a .001-.002 fit so there are no weak spots like a blockguard that relies on the stock casting for fitment. no welding!!

as for people running 500-600hp regularly for long periods on stock block. there are probably 100 people for ever 1 who crack a sleeve at 400+hp.... this process is to help the motors in the 4000-500hp range survive some detonation.

[QUOTE]i got news for yah if you detonate as much as i did them cast pistons are gonna shatter taking them nice sleeves with them [QUOTE]
and what is your experience with this type of cylinder support that you can so confidently state such a thing?

i at least know its a better option than a blockguard, but how much is yet to be seen. ??? so we wait and see.

Cool, that looks like a nice design.

Re: Putting the Bseries vitara's to the test

like trickeng said, for ever 1 that works at 500-600hp, there are 100 that blow with 400 or less. the tune is very important and helps but nothing can account for the fact that these sleeves were not designed for that and some are weaker than others.

hell i had a gsr motor blow a sleeve wide open on the pull on the dyno at less than 5lbs of boost at 5000 rpms. blew the damn end tank off the radiator.

stock sleeves are a disaster waiting to happen.

Re: Putting the Bseries vitara's to the test

wow u guys have bad luck, i dont know any one who ever blew a stock sleeve at that low of power cept from detonation and lean tune ect.
