Sport Compact racing started in the early 90 as a counter culture to the out of reach racing in NHRA. Sport Compact racing blew up because there were cars being raced that people could relate to and felt they could achieve. Low budget grassroots racing was and is the foundation of our sport and when NHRA and NOPI tried to bring in all the pro teams and money in it damn near killed it. We saw our heroes, if you will, like Kubo, Tran, Bergenholtz, ...... pulled away from the Hondas that got them where they were and into cars people really didnt care about, like, or relate too because of money. They though the money would push our sport forward but in reality it had the opposite effect. Luck for us Cliff with IFO and others have done a great job getting us back to our roots and stopping the down hill side we were on.
