MEMPHIS, TN Import Face-Off?... how's the scene there now?
Memphis Motorsports Park contacted us yesterday to see if Import Face-Off can schedule an event with them some time in 2009. We actually hosted an event there in 2004, but turnout was low for spectators and racers. If I recall, there were only 3 cars in the FWD class and two came up with us from Louisiana, lol.
How is the scene now? Are there more racers? Who in the area would compete in SFWD? Who would drive to this event from out of state? How many import performance shops, if any, are there in Memphis now?
Thanks in advance,

I remember that was the first race i traveled out of state for. Good track now if we could get a good turnout to go. I hope this happens, i love going there.

I'm not sure if we will be able to make the Memphis TN race but we will be at the Mongomery AL race. Would like to see/meet a couple people from H-T there I will be with the white Supra, silver Supra and white EG hatchback. So if you see one of the three cars find me and say hello

I'm in Memphis. As far as competitive class import drag racers, there are not too many really.
A lot of the builders/racers have switched to the LSX platforms.
Most of the import related shops do drifting or street set ups, only one that comes to mind that really specializes in drag set ups.
The MMP track is a great track though.
http://www.memphisracingscene.com is a good place for local feedback, its once of the main message boards for racing there.
I'd love to see it in Memphis, but as far as well the local VS visitor turn out, I'd say more visitors then locals would be racing.

Tn isn't far from us in Ohio really. I would go for sure and we would probably have 5 cars in our group race just in SFWD and we have some awd cars to that we may be able to bring. Hopefully you guys get this race together for next year. becuause that gives us another to attend

Re: (bads2k)more info
I'm only 240 miles away and would definitely make that one. There is a place in Memphis called Mellon Tuning that does alot of EVO stuff that would another good person to check with. I certainly hope this race happens.
contact info for Mellon ( http://www.mellontuning.com)

I'm sure we can drag some other cars along with us from Indy.
Memphis is a fun city.

Memphis is a fun city. We used to stay down there when the DB drag finals were in TN. I would actually make this a whole weekend trip friday through sunday.

I do agree Memphis is a fun city. And nice track. I went there earlier this year to watch Hot Rod's Pump Gas Drags. Not too many imports on the t&t nights. But I did see MellonTunings Evo run, and a quick white eg hatch that use to run Turbo Street in Nopi!

Re: (JDMBrian)
My brother and I took our GTI there for the PINKS Arm-Drop Live program a few months back. Besides us, there was a toyota truck with a motor swap and a honda with a V8 swap and that was it representing imports. We had some locals come up to us to chat but there wasn't much signed up to race.
Like some of the other posts above, Memphis is a great town. The bars are fun, the music is awesome, Graceland is worth the entry fee and Beale St. is a blast, but I donn't see much of a field there from the locals. It is; however, in a good location for the mid-south. I think it would draw from all directions and could make a good event.
