Have anyone created their own strain gauge shifter? I would like to use a strain gauge but cannot justify paying the cost of close to $1000 for the modification I'm a kind of DIY guy. I already have the Gforce shifter and transmission. This year I'm changing to AEM infinity from s300 not important to the subject. However I found this video;
Is a $1000 dollars worth a few tenths off you quarter mile times? Went from running 9.2's with no strain to 8.8 when I started using the strain gauge, no changes were done in my setup except having Locash setup my strain. Let me also say that trying to build some sort DIY strain gauge if that thing doesn't work in the slightest and there is any error you will round a dog and well then the cost of a proper strain will be going into replacing gears.
$1000 bucks is a bit expensive but in the end it's worth it. Going from Hondata to Motec was damn expensive but in the long run totally worth it when I see my car getting faster and faster.
I understood the risks, but when you research how they work and the video shows a simple modification which only cost a couple dollars, at $1000 we are just paying for someone's name, not set on building my own, but I will be testing out the idea.
I get what you're saying but if it were as easy as some videos and a couple bucks most Honda Racers would be doing it that way then. Their has to be a reason these cars are all using 1000 dollar strain gauge setups instead of just making their own especially since I am sure a lot of these guys are capable of doing it themselves it were easy.
Anyway good luck if you can get it done and working.
i tried to DIY it when i did it, even worked with an NHRA PSB crew chief to look at the wholesale components. It wasn't worth it to DIY it. It was worth it to drop the $900 in already developed and tested gforce lever with gauge bonded.
Hondata has one for $600 now that i think will "work with anything"
