custom A20A2 block to B series trans. adaptor plate project

well working since october first driving 5000km from montreal to orlando door to door in 51 hrs. To buy a 95 EJ rolling chassis. next day began tearing down the whole car to re built, re design and fix pretty much everything. we're running a 1985 Sohc A20A2 from a prelude/accord and until last season was running the matching tranny, which we went through 9 in 1 season with 0 engine failures and if it wasen't for the trans. we would have probly been series champs.so we bought this 95 EJ you'll probly recognize this car the guy lives in olando nice area BTW.
https://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a5...y/3a421bac.jpgand decide to build a custom adaptor plate to run the same engine program and a B series tranny with a mark william diff. and gator axels. It's been really long and hard work and finally the tranny is ready to be bolted up and every thing install on the car. seemed very un real a few months ago.
heres a small write upon the hot rod
83mm custom JE 10:1
factory length pauter rods
no sleeves because the A20A2 is solid deck cast Iron block
sohc re grind
44mm ITB's
simple digital systems EM-4 EMS
MSD digital 8
custo built ex. manifold
custom built plenum and non recurculating ice water to air FMIC built by stepane beauragarde
Garret t4 .83/.116 turbo
progressive directport NOS .28
complete turbo and engine setup built and designed by Jason budd owner and driver car was tuned by stephane at SMP
we held in the prelude in the begining of last season quebec's fastest honda for a while, I think we're the 2nd fastest sohc next to bisi.

goodluck with your new car. good to see someone else taking on the task of constructing an adapter/engine plate. we are also going to be doing something similar to our hotrod cars.

Garage engineering, I love it. If they dont make it then make it your damn self.

Good Luck. https://honda-tech.com/forums/images...es/emsmile.gif https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emthup.gif

oh yeah don't worry we will be runiing a full CSCS program this season and possibly some NDRA events aswell. I think they will be having one in new hampshire and new your state which makes it good for us because it not to far from here.

we also got a new trailer and my mother in law is sponsering us her old ass 86 chrysler RV so it should be fun. we can't wait until april winter is starting to become a real pain in the ass https://honda-tech.com/forums/images...s/emthdown.gif it's work just to heat the shop, but luckly for us one of our friends own a pallet factory so we get crazy wood, it's just it alot of work to go pick it up. but thats just a tiny compromise for racing.

the plate is being sent today to be trimmed, so hopefully this weekend coming up we should be installing the motor. Thats if we don't run into other snags, but they are always expected when dealing with custom fabbing!

Johnny O A20 KIller 03-02-2006 02:57 PM

You should not break anymore trans now because this car now has back brakes and you can load the axles and tranny now. I thought it would be maybe easier to do a older b20 tranny, you just have to convert over to cables. It migth not cost as much.

haveaNOSday 03-03-2006 06:35 AM

I prefer the rods to cables and it really wasen't that hard to make the plate the hardest thing about this project was getting the fw spacer. The raw fabrication is finally done now just to polish and install the motor/trans i'll post some more pics tonite.

dude hook me up some pics of your set up. and I got a bunch of JE's if you want real cheap 100$ for 6 still in excellent condition

well here are some update pics I took during the day. the plate is officially complete, just a couple more mock up tests and mount the intermidiate shaft then the motors going in probly tonight.

heres how the spacer looks off set 1/2 inch with ARP bolts to bolt the FW

https://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a5...y/IMG_1061.jpg

theres a pretty big difference between B series and A series input shafts.I cut an input shaft from a blown tranny to use for a center tool because we blowing so many trannys last year we were changing them at the track between rounds

Maybe I'm blind, but I'm not making out a spacer. Looks like a "long butt" style crankshaft. Do you have anything in higher resolution for us blind old men?

K series tranny > B series tranny andy day.

haveaNOSday 03-05-2006 03:49 AM

you would never guess it's a spacer because it's machined to perfection looks exactly like the flange from the crank. trust me it's a spacer. it was machined with everything in mind like a recess for the pilot bearing ,dowel pin hole for proper alignment and a lip around the inner edge.

BTW K trannys are cable shifters, b series are rods which are much stonger for thoes hard shifts! for drag application I'll take b series thank you!

Then explain to me why K-boxes die at low mileages/under warranty, when attached to stock engines, driven by women who never fully depress the gas pedal, bark the tires, power shift, or take the engine to redline? Whereas at the 1000+ whp level, 50% of the pro drag racers are still running Honduh B-series gearboxes?

Oh, wait, the K-series has i-Vtech, I forgot https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emsad.gif

I'm sorry but the world's fastest all motor cars... What trannies are they running? Apparently they are racecars. K Series > B series once again. Someone should make a adapter plate to run K series trannies in H22s. Now that would be the best idea. https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emthup.gif

Yes, all those cars run fast because it's a K series tranny https://honda-tech.com/forums/images...s/emthdown.gif They are fast because of the motor, the tranny is their only option and not the reason they are fast.
