bead locking your lenso rims "HOW TO"
ok first off let me say that i decided to put this here after Zubaltec told me how to do it and i thought alot of fi guys drag there cars and know that we do all we can for traction , but if it needs to be moved then mods please do so , and a big thanks to Zubaltec
now on to the how to
first you will need a pack of these mrgasket tire screw kit
Then you can mark the rim on the inside of the lips 5 on the outside and 5 on the inside, it should look like this
now you use the drill bit that comes in the kit , and when you drill you want to drill from the inside out and hold the drill at this angle
After you have drilled out all the holes (front and back)it should look like this on the front side ,
then you can put some grease on the screws and use a impact gun to thread the rim , make shure you have the gun on its lowest setting and do not tighten them at this point , you just want to thread the rim ,
then go have the slicks put back on the rims , air them up to 30 - 35psi ,
now you can put a little more grease on the screws and thread them into the rim , then use a rachet to install them the final time , becareful not to over tighten them or you will strip the threads out in the rim ,
this is what it should look like when you are done , and no more spinning the rims in the slicks ,

Re: (B18C1CYA)
wow... i guess i dont know too much about high HP drag racing... this is probably the first ive seen of drag wheels actually spinning inside of the slicks. must have some serious power behind those axles
very good idea and write up, makes sense

Woulden't some type adhesive on the bead be enough for all but the most powerfull FWDs? Beadsealer, rubber cement? IDK just a thought.

Re: (vaporboy12)
Whats funny is that I did this on my 1/10th scale monster truck's rims, but I never thought of it for a real vehicle. And here I thought it was gonna be a write-up on how to become a red-neck-ricer.

yours are more rigidly connected to your drive shafts where as the slicks no the rims aren't... thus.. when you launch, the slicks will stick to the ground getting traction whereas your axles are spinning your rims.. one's moving, the other one does due to friction... get it?

Safety issue
Maybe I still look at stuff like this from my old job perspective (race director) but, this to me looks dangerous. I'm not seeing a true thread in the rim, nor any type of locker to stop the screw from backing out. Potentially could the screws not come out, and then become a projectile? Great writeup B18, but I have to admit I'm a touch nervous of stuff like this.

Re: Safety issue (Clayton)
people who dont have the screws in there wheels, next time you go to the track, make a mark on your wheels, and a corresponding mark on your slicks, go make a pass, and see how much your tire has moved, its quite shocking.

This is how it's done Clayton, the screws go in pretty tight and shouldn't come loose. Just a note though, Art is right, the screws create wrinkles, and more wrinkles are better...

might me be a stupid question but......... why would more wrinkles in the side wall be better? ive never had experience with bead locks so i wouldnt really know. thanks
