OH! the authority has spoke with all the experience. thread over. Everybody look for another intake manifold. evidentally this one is no good. Personally I think this manifold is a great idea. and a affordable price too. Being somewhat modular, so a person could tailor they're plenum volume for there setup. Excellent idea.
Lol.. I did laugh alittle bit at this reply. |
Re: anyone using the new skunk2 ultra intake?
i plan to switch to it at some point this yearrrr
|
Re: anyone using the new skunk2 ultra intake?
Il take 2.... We are making switch on few cars....

Re: anyone using the new skunk2 ultra intake?
I am sure this manifold will show great gains on high hp drag cars. What about street cars? Worth the switch in overall power under the curve or will gains just be made "peak power" wise? I'd imagine most street cars should stick with a s2 pro series mani or victor X.

Re: anyone using the new skunk2 ultra intake?
It's called a "prototype" for a reason. The new final version will be on my car by the end of next week. I've been running the small plenum the entire time and using my exhaust cam as a band aid to make things flat above 10k rpm. With the new 5.5 Liter stuff MPH will come a lot easier. Nothing but credit to Skunk2 for the awesome product here.

Depending On What your version of a street car is, the pro-series would work and eldebrock or the plenum spacers. I ran the pro-series from 200-550 then eldebrock from 670-900+. Ran out of plenum around 950. You will be limited by other things on a street car. They made this catered to the racers |
Re: anyone using the new skunk2 ultra intake?
Since people voice their opnion without facts or testing, I'll add my 2 cents.
I was there why Tbmotorworx was testing the manifold on the dyno and IT WORKs! Great design, great fitment and looks clean. P.S Skunk 2 feel free to send me one for the 62mm class car lol |
Re: anyone using the new skunk2 ultra intake?
I put my hands on one today. It's a really really nice piece. I was curious about the weight vs. a GE outlaw intake manifold. So we put both of em on a digital scale. The GE outlaw mani with no throttle body flange weighed 14.2lbs and the S2 one with the 5.5l plenum weighed in at 16.4lbs.

Re: anyone using the new skunk2 ultra intake?
If anyone here physically gets on in their hands(regardless of displacement model), can you do me a favor and measure it from flange to plemum end for firewall clearance? I'd like to see if i can fit this in a car that has an engine that doesnt belong in there.
|
Re: anyone using the new skunk2 ultra intake?
I wonder how well they'll hold up under BIG boost? I'm debating on building my own or buying one of these? I love that its cast!

Re: anyone using the new skunk2 ultra intake?
Sounds like sheepey is the man to talk to about this intake. He has that integra running well for sure.

From the left side flange to tb opening, it's about 10 inches. http:// From the right flange up is about 8 1/2inches. Mines has the 1 liter spacing. It is a very nice piece, planning to run this on my go-autoworks a/c compatible turbo type r build. :) |
Re: anyone using the new skunk2 ultra intake?
Thanks so much for that Frosty.
Now oh lawd Jesus there's a fire! Looks like it should work for what I'm using it on! =) |
Re: anyone using the new skunk2 ultra intake?
^^^^^
Yea, me too. Now to start on an adaptor plate |

as someone stated, a prototype that was still in the works. That's the purpose of R&D to figure those things out. Failures happen often on product testing. The difference is, most people just keep it to themselves.
the basic setup with no 2L spacer added on sheepey's setup is still running 179mph. That cant be denied. Seems to still work. Great alternative option IMO. The eldebrock is as simple as it gets, and the eldebrock would still work, if the plenum was much bigger and TB opening bigger for the big power cars that need it. I think the options of different sizes is what makes it pretty good. Then a TB that still accepts a stock map. or if you have a wilson TB it should fit since its the same bolt pattern. Im not scared to use it. I approached skunk about this back in late 09 about making a bigger Manifold. I didnt think it would happen until i saw it over a year ago happening. I can def see me with one on the new setup.

Re: anyone using the new skunk2 ultra intake?
Wtf is the point of posting that?
|
Re: anyone using the new skunk2 ultra intake?
Just looks like frustration to me. A prototype breaking in that situation really has nothing to do with how the manifold performs. If welding it together made it hold up for testing, then it can be improved for production.

Looks like someone got you the info you were looking for but being I posted this in another thread a few days ago... I thought it would be good to post here as well.

As you can see from the two images above... you have plenty of room. 5.5L http://i1320.photobucket.com/albums/...sbc8a41f8.jpeg |

Thanks for the pics and info!

Re: anyone using the new skunk2 ultra intake?
would a 74mm tb fit in this manifold or I really need to buy the skunk2 90mm tb as well?

Wilson or accufab would work too of course...
