Nissan GTR: Godzilla Gets Cleaned Up **UPDATED 6/26**

I was looking forward to attending the Mayday Capital Run and Stanceworks show in Austin. But when Jeremy from PowerFab called me to rescue their recently acquired GTR from a horrible dealership detail, all bets were off.

The car had been taken to Nissan for its 2k mile break-in tune and was "detailed" while it was there. Unfortunately, the poor thing was not treated very well and needed a lot of work. I have to admit, she was in much worse shape than I had anticipated. Due to the excessive amounts of polishing it needed, we did not have enough time to do it all in one day. I will be going out to complete the perfection of the car soon. The pics can take it from here.

BEFORE PICS:

What a way to go... I'm envious.

She didn't look too bad. I thought it was going to be fairly easy to get the paint "better than new" status. Upon closer inspection, I was wrong. Way wrong lol.

AFTER A BATH:

I got a lot of reflectivity back after a good wash, but it didn't matter. I knew all the compounding I needed to do in order to remove all the swirls and buffer trails from the paint was going to make it similar to a complete restoration project.

AFTER PICS:

~7 hours later and running out of sunlight, I decided to throw in the towel for now. It was 2 hours after PowerFab had shut down for the day, and I felt that we were at a good stopping point. The car is completely cleaned and all surfaces are protected. But personally, I am not finished until absolute perfection. I may update this thread later when I get to revisit the car.

UPDATES!!!

I told Jeremy I wasn't quite done with the GTR last time and I meant it. I went out to follow up on it today. It still looked fantastic, but there were some things that I didn't like, and most of it was easily corrected and took it to the next level.

After I washed it, I brought it in and started looking things over with my lights.

After a little experimenting, it became apparent that all it needed was a good bit of polishing. Followed it up with a thorough round of swirl removal and sat back and enjoyed the view.

This was for a shop (PowerFab Automotive, Houston Tx) that has been my biggest patron since I started doing this. They get prices that can't be matched, and I get awesome cars and pics to advertise with. Fair trade :)

How could a dealer rape a car like that? Just don't do it then.

Their detailing positions are entry level for anyone and everyone?

I must admit you are right. Obviously
It just hurts to see that happen to such a special car. It's good to have people around who can fix it!

I wasn't saying that the guy who detailed the car at the dealership wasn't a good guy. However, even the best detailer can only work with what his employer is willing to buy. With that said, most dealerships around here are too cheap to supply their people with good stuff to use on the cars. So the finish gets treated to a round of horrid, silicone products that do more harm than good in the long run. Follow that up with microfiber towels that have been used inappropriately and poorly handled and even I wouldn't be able to do a good job on a car in that situation.
