i have some weird "scratches" on my hood after attempting to polish my car with a DA for the first time. I tested pinnacle swirl remover #2(orange ccs pad) and #1(white pad) on the hood and got these scratches. i continued to use only #1 on the rest of the car and didnt get any of those scratches.
my theory: i took off enough of the clear coat to reveal these scratches but not enough to remove them.
my Q is do i need to use something more aggressive or was this caused my something else.
car is a 99 civic btw
thanks in advance.

Got some bad news for you.
That defect is called "crows feet", tiny cracks in the surface of the paint, and can only be solved by repainting. The reason they are visible is that now you've done some polishing, small amounts of your polish became lodged in those cracks. I come across this very often when dealing with darker colored Hondas especially new ones. Don't feel like you're the only one, I had to refuse a job on a Mugen Si with less than 20k on the clock, garaged nearly its whole life, and had them all over the hood, some of the roof, and was starting on the trunk.
