two crx's into one

I'm working on a restoration of an '87 CRXsi. Not bad overall, just the typical rust. I found a rust-free '86 CRX that is not an SI.. Aside from the moon roof, will my '87 si parts transfer over to that '86 non-si? Thanks. Mike

yes. it's all pretty "easy" to swap everything, especially since you have both cars. just strip each one down, including wiring harnesses and gas tanks, you'll be able to make a "lightweight" Si without a sunroof. :)

Thanks for the reply. This will be my 3rd car I've restored, and the last one ( a Pontiac) I did this same two-into-one deal. And yes, it is easy and fun. I just would have hated to find a subtle difference that could derail the project. I am tossing around the idea of swapping roofs, my wife really wants the moon roof. I'm curious.... why did you call it a "lightweight" SI?

depending on what you swap over, it will more than likely end up being lighter than the Si. you can pick and choose what you do and do not want. and if your doner is an HF, there are a few mechanical differences that make it lighter. like no rear internal sway bar, aluminum rear drums.. i don't know if it has the rear wiper assembly. no moonroof. (subtract about 30-40lbs from above your head..)

E-at me... thanks for the reply. A brief history: My wife had a 1986 CRXsi when we got married. When she got pregnant with our first daughter, we sold it and bought a Taurus. Wow, what a downer, huh? I promised her that someday she would have her beloved honda back. That daughter is now 15, so I am making good on my promise. Quite honestly, I don't even need to put the FI engine in the car, it just needs to look the same, have the rear wiper, moonroof, and 5-speed. It will not be run hard. I want the FI engine, I did love that car.
Thanks for the input.. Mike

I had an '86 CRX Si twelve-thirteen years ago. Purchasing another (3G Civic Si, actually) is just like coming home, isn't it?
