Default 'tis a very sad day today, and quite maddening.

Ok so I picked up a 1986 CRX DX 4 days ago. It had been sitting for about a year but I put a battery in it and it started right up. Cool! Well, the passenger side CV was toast. Completely. So I ran down to Autozone and got a new one. Came home, installed it, no problems. I know I installed it right because I've installed many a CV in my not so long time here on earth.

So anyways, I'm out with the girlfriend today driving up to my house, when I hear a huge clunk, a bunch of knocking, and then a loss of power. Actually, the motor still sounded cherry, but the car wouldn't move. So, pissed off and embarrased, I pull to the side of the road. Open the hood, and here is what I see:

Well, at this point I'm pretty angry. I just lost a brand new CV that I KNOW I put on right. Hmph. So upon further inspection, I find myself to quickly become in a REALLY PO'd mood:

Yep. I'm pretty pissed. I've got a apointment with the district manager of Autozone in the morning. They'll understand how I feel, I do think, especially since this CRX was my daily/future project until I finished the 300zx.

similar thing happened to me: i was front ended when an idiot cut me off from right of way for thru traffic and caused my tripot bearings to fallout and the boot fell apart. I replaced the axle and have been back on the road. I went to Autozone actually and took my broken axle and the one they were offering me was actually a tad shorter.. I didnt take the bitch and went to pepboys and got it for a couple more bucks but this one was looked way better and cleaner.

85SI btw

I'm actually wondering how it happened too. I didn't realize that a CV could break through a tranny like that!

Man that sucks. I hope they do something for you, but my guess is they're going to deny liability.

Yea, I'm about to head out to Autozone to talk to the district manager. They'll probably say no, but I'll fight it for as long as I can. I may end up going to the junkyard and pulling a tranny...

They better at least warranty my cv, since it is a lifetime thing.

well if you do go and grab a tranny ,try and grab a si tranny it has a shorter final gear and will make it alittle more peppy

it bolts right up ,allso if you adventurous you should grab a si head allso ,take your dx cam and bolt it to the si head vroom vroom lol

So the tear apart begins:

Quick question, how do I get this off:

I'm pretty sure that was a really dumb question lol, but it's been a long day. Oh, and the shift linkage. I slid one off, but the other one with the boot, how does it come off?

EDIT: Kyle, I want those f'n gram lites you have for sale!! Ahh if only I had more than 150 bucks....

So I just got back from Autozone. The manager wasn't going to take it back as a warranty! I was p.o'd bad. So I made him call the district manager, who said take it back because he knows I go in there and spend alot of money all the time.

Owned by knowing people.

EDIT: To bad friends. So now I have no ride in the morning to the salvage yard, because I just had someone bail on me. This blows.

Above the bracket, there is a plastic nut on the clutch cable. Back this nut off until there is enough slack to pass the actual cable through a notch on the bracket and lever arm, and its off.

Sorry to hear about the axle.

^^^Ok thanks. I started to twist that nut off yesterday and then I ended up doing something else.

EDIT: I think I'm gonna try and catch a ride to the salvage yard today and see if they'll trade me that entire Si CRX for my z31 300zx....

Woot! It's out!

So this happened:

Damn.

But, I got all the bolts loose, and my engine started leanin like a cholo:

Lower the jack slowly, pull, and it's out!!!

Carnage!!!

So yea, I'm pretty happy I got it out. This was my first tranny drop, and I like to think I did a good job! Now I get to do another tomorrow.

I went to the one in the NE heights. I've always gone to that one, so it was weird I had a hard time there.

So I was checking out the car today, the yard said they can't trade me the car, BUT, a shell is only $100...... hmm...

My crx has frame damage up front, the Si shell is in perfect condition, just a bit of rust on the rear fender wells. If the 300zx sells for the $500 I'm asking, I think I'll pick up a shell. It'd be nice to have. While I'm there, a browntop or a black top will be on my list as well
